Alot like that, but it has the fuel filler elbow, it isnt flush with the case.

Also has the choke lever installed.

MUCH cleaner. This thing is actually very nice, not molested as far as I can tell.

Havent even looked at it yet, just know it wont idle down. Ill check the seals and intake gaskets is the needles dont help.

Yup..been here before.

No camera
Computer wont allow uploading through the external data port, and the CD rom drive wont allow the uploading of pics through a disc.

Only way I can describe the saw is 8.5/10, mostly because the bar is rough, and there are a couple scuffs, but no bare spots or anything.

What hurts, is he paid like 30 bucks for the saw. Cleaned up the ignition, and it popped right off, but ran like crap. Hopefully I can get it striaghtened out with some adjustments.

meh, I went out and took a shot at it.

TI starts really hard cold. I had to squirt some fuel in the throat, and it fired right up.

IT ran great, revved up nicely, but NO idle.

I took the cover off, and assessed that it is just as clean underneath as it is on the outside. 0 grime buildup., Except a little bit under the clutch cover, in the corners.

I turned the idle stop all the way out, and fired it off..still ran..then I choked it all the way, and it ran slower, smoked more, but took 15 seconds to die.

Im going to go WAYYYYY out on a limb here, and say Air leak.

Ill pull the carb off and put some gasket sealer on the carb/head mating surface. I got this copper stuff that works REALLY well. Not affected by oil, heat, or gas.

Also, the governor doesnt seem to work...but the more I think about it, that is likely because of the leak.

It is a really well built saw though, pretty well balanced, looks like a 18" bar, hard nose, and very "thick" top to bottom.

Seems to also be quieter than the 066 I worked on a while back, but Ill know more when I bury it in a log.

How effective is the steel mesh air filter?

Red I thought you were asked to teach small engines... So Teach...:hmm3grin2orange:

Check the carb block bolts/screws to the cylinder...

Seals give out on these old saws eventually, are dead easy to replace, although the clutch can be jambed on pretty hard... If you need seals, let me know... I have a few - and the price will be right!

Well, Id start with the easiest things first. Make sure the mounting bolts are tight, then crank it, and spray some WD40 around the carb mounts. If the engine speed or it smokes more, I know where at least 1 leak is, never assume the first leak, is the ONLY leak. Ill also spray some around the throttle plate shafts, and look for a reaction.

At that point Ill take the carb off, look at the gasket, if it is torn, Ill make a new one, if not, Ill make sure both surfaces are smooth, and free of defects/old gasket. Then apply a thin film of the Permatex Gasket sealer, making sure not to use too much, as it could be sucked into the intake.

Then let it sit a few minutes, then assemble.

Now crank it and see how it runs. If it idles properly, and I get good response with both adjustment screws, I will assume it is working porperly, then tune it in.

If it is still not idling porperly, Ill look at the lower crank case half bolts, check THAT gasket for leaks, if I find some, Ill order a new gasket, as a sealer should not be used in such a critical area.

If I find no leaks, Ill assess the crankshaft seals, and if they appear worn, Ill replace them.

If the lower case half gasket looks good, the carb is sealed up, and the seals look good, but it still wont idle..Heck. I dont know. Have to be a carb problem, but the fact it runs so good after it starts, just lean, and it doesnt choke well, makes me think air leak. Also, it is getting plenty of fuel, line is fresh, and pliable, gas tank vent is missing....so I know that isnt a problem.

Jeez..Gimme a 22hp Fuel injected, Water Cooled Kawasaki...those are easier to work on then some of the saws made today.lol
