The 28th sounds good.

I'll have a talk with my Stihl dealer (Don Dewar from Dewar equipment co) and see if he is interested. The end of April is a busy time of year for him so I don't know if he will be able to make it, I'll try anyway.

This GTG is making me wish I kept my ms660.

cut, send me a pic of your log stands for cutting and I'll build them/get them built.

I just copied the metal one that was at the spring 2006 ohio gtg and made it out of scrap 2x4's, I will go find a pic. Legs have to be pinned down or weight put on the legs for the up cuts.

Here is the metal one i copied. http://www.arboristsite.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32793&d=1144072923

And my wooden one. http://www.arboristsite.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32948&d=1144540914

thanks Kevin.

I had a few PMs about the area so it could be looked up for feasability.

look up Wheelersburg, Ohio 45694

I made a run to indy late last year for an ebay item. took me about 3 hours or a tad more one way. but I drive the speed limit and was getting passsed like nothing the whole time, so most folks could do it in less time...

It would take me 3.5 hours for the trip down to your place. Plus if I run up north to get the metal log stand for use, it is 45 mins up and 45 mins back. So let me know in advance please.

I spoke with the owner at the equipment rental place today (also an Echo dealer) and he was (as usual) extremely helpfull. offered to bring saws to run, tables/chairs, loan a bobcat for moving logs, and whatever else we could think of.

Kevin, I am working on those log stands so I will let you know soon if I still need you to bring it soon enough to save you a trip.
tell our northern friend that I said thanks again for the offer and make sure he is comming as well.

Starting to get that adrenaline rush thinking about the gtg and running some saws. Got that little kid feeling again.:biggrinbounce2:
Plus this gives us all a chance to get some more hands on cutting with different saws stock and modded.
Which I think will help everyone out with input on the saws that is used.;)

Hey guys
I believe that weekend works for me. If you all don't mind having a rookie there, I'll throw my 028WB in the truck and drive on down.

Could someone just clear one thing up for me. What does GTG actually stand for?

Thanks

Ill be there if the powers that be permit, so you surely wont be the only rookie in attendance.

Is anyone interested in doing some chainsaw racing off the log stands? We can do Timed, 1 cut or 2 cut or 3 cut? 2 and 3 cuts add in change overs also. down cut, up cut, etc.
Most GTG's seem to use the 2 cut hot start over wood for times.
But also have the options of hot start hands on wood with saws running on ground and start timing from the word go.
Then there is the cold start, which I would say for most of us should pass on.
Most saw classes are broke down at gtg's like this.
0-50cc
0-60cc
0-80cc
0-100cc
100cc over
I wouldn't mind seeing a 0-40cc for the little saws for fun.
Cut in at least 8" to 11" round for racing, I figure their isn't any 8x8 or 10x10 square cants on hand.
If anyone wants to get this going let me know OK, its a good adrenaline rush.

Ralph what is the biggest bars needed for this? Any need for 32" b+c's? or can I just bring 20" stuff and under to save room?

Cut, et all, I am not a big racing guy so you tell me what wood you want and I'll have it there. you want one log of 30" tell me.
I know whats going to go on, I just need the particulars on wood size
also, how many milling rigs are comming and I'll have the logs set out and off the ground a bit for you guys. you keep what you saw. I think maybe no need for mill logs any longer than 8' and a few inches, that way they fit into pickups for the ride home. but I could be wrong, and you all want longer mills.

just think of it as placing an order. tell me what you want. later on we need to get a list of whos comming (how many) so that I have enough wood set up and food delivered. all members and friends welcome.

Ill be bringing my csm Ralph. My rails are only 10 long so logs 9 ft. and under will work good for me.

Ralph, you need any money collections taken up for food etc? Either given there to you or paypal you some by those attending?
Let us know what other needs could be used and brought there also?

And maybe a little "fishing"..........

I will try to make it, just to meet some of you guys. We will be extremely busy then, but I will try anyway.

No Fishing
You be sure and keep your pole to yourself.
:hmm3grin2orange:

Sounds like fun guys. I am not even going to lead on that I can come to this one... I leave in two weeks for about 2 1/2-3 months. Would like to me ya Ralph. Have fun guys

Axes anyone?

Is anyone interested in trying to throw a double bit axe at 20' at a pine target with a bullseye at 60" high?
If so the axes usually weigh 2.5 lbs min to 3.5 lbs with a min of 24" handle.
My axes weigh closer to the 3.5 lbs, just like the heavier axe for my style of throw.

If anyone wants to try axe throwing.

Ralph, we would need a 12"-16" thick by 18"-22" wide pine piece at least. I have them, but it would be taken up all my room in my truck, 3 2x4's. If we can find a saw  we can cut them to length on site. I will bring the nails and hammer and rear stake and a cordless drill, etc if needed.

If any kids are there, I could make up a Tomahawk target too. Throw them at about 9-10 feet, if i remember correct.
I have a mouse tomahawk for younger kids and then a full size tomahawk and a modern indestructible throwing hatchet.
