Stopped at a Pawn shop today, 028 super on the shelf priced
for $140. I Asked if it would run, he said it would start but die.
I told him I did'nt need any more problems. He said I will take
$100 and if problem is major he will give me my money back.
If something under $30 he will pay for it........What the heck
I said, Armed with AS info pulled carb, cleaned screen in carb
new fuel filter and shes back to life  with 150 lbs of comp.
but the surprise was when I went to adjust the chain, cleaned
the crud away on the front to adjust chain......NO SCREW!
chain cover had no adjuster hole either. Pulled cover off
Surprise it's a side chain adjuster 028  Had a extra
side cover to put on it.

Nice score! And not too hard on the eyes either, good job getting it running well and it sounds like the gent that sold it to you was a decent sort as well.
Yup^^ agree with Smokin', its the bug, and it bit agin
Yeah, a disease most of us can live with, barring interference in relationships (which could mean deterioration into da 'bad doggy zone' from what I hear), thankfully I don't suffer that aspect of 'The Affliction'....
...yet...... *cough* :D

Serge (sort of puzzled what you mean about the extra side cover tho :monkey: )

Sorry.........Clutch cover that was on the saw did'nt have a hole
for adjusting the chain....so I thought it was a front adjuster type
and to my surprise it.............................

I recently picked up a 038AV. How does it compare to this one?

I don't know........someone will though

I have never run a 038.......but would say it has more
of everything........lot more power and more weight

Just dril the hole in the old cover (even the factory did for a while), and charge him $30!

great find... I just sold one for $250, and could have got more.

And.. WHEN you mod the muffer (I know you will), on the front cover just cut the small louvers AT THE TOP, twist back, flatten them out and bend them down so they are left angled upwards a bit. Why? You need a deflector to keep the heat off the case. It's obvious what I mean when you look at it.

I got $20 out of him............Then went to Stihl dealer, traded 028 in on a new FS 90R trimmer :dizzy:

Run almost 2 tanks, about 2 hours latter.....flipped switch to on,
no choke, no fast idle, one pull to start  It don't wind up
as quick as my FS 80, but has more grunt.....some place I trim.
I only trim once or twice a year, grass and weeds over waist high.
FS 80 in tall grass (stems) would bog it down if not careful,
FS 90 no problem with the stems has enough grunt to throw
them clear

Takes about 5 -8 tanks for it to really get good... yep... I'm a fan of the 4 mix, but run it on the stihl super or full synthetic..

So far around here closest dealer that Carry's Stihl full synthetic, 100 miles
away and $17.50 for 38.4 oz........Mobil 2T for $7.19 for 32 oz
So my tight a$$ is using........well you know. Ask dealer not to gas it
up, I would at home.......yes anal. :hmm3grin2orange:

You'll love the 4 mix. I've got a 110 and couldn't be happier, plus it smells like cookies when you flog it!:biggrinbounce2:
