:blob2:Well this was a huge surprise yesterday afternoon/evening and came true today! I found a fresh posting on CL saying 36" stihl chainsaw. I looked at the pictures and sure enough, its a Stihl 090! It said it needed a piston and rings per his Stihl dealer and also said "make me an offer". So I did. I was the first to make an offer and they honored that. They told me it was mine and to pick it up today. I drove almost two hours, one way, for this one. Really good people as well. The history: It was originally from a tree service company through a relative of his then passed down to him. It was well taken care of. I haven't even run a rag over it yet. His Stihl dealer took it apart and concluded that it only needs a piston and rings. I found the muffler cover missing and a bolt here and there. But that's it. He knew what it is worth and still gave me the deal of this century. I don't think anyone could smack me hard enough to get this grin of my face:blob2:

Nice find! Sure escaped me!

I'd rep you, but I'm outta bullets ...

It only escaped you because i jumped on it almost as fast as it got posted. Then the poster took it off CL after i confirmed that I wanted it. So the post was only up for an hour tops!

A 090, serious congrats :msp_thumbup:! I'll rep you if I'm able to.

Have you had a look a the p&c?

All I have done was take the filter cover off, pretty clean, gave it a couple tugs to make sure it wasn't seized, showed my trophy to mom (who lives out by this saw's previous owner) and stared at it. Its a beast. I have never seen one other than in pictures.

That's a beauty right there!I hope to add an 090 to my collection one day.Good luck with it and let us know when you get it running.

Thank you all for the kind words. I don't have an IPL or a workshop manual yet but as I look closer it looks like there used to be a buffer on the underside of the handle by the clutch cover. If you look at the pictures you can see the gap I am looking at. There are also two cracks in the clutch cover. I did a compression test and it only pulled 90psi. I have to clean the dehumidifier parts off my bench and get this beast apart.

The "88" in permanent marker on the cover was an identification number for the tree service company.

No missing AV rubber thats just how they are ! the hardest one to find if atall now is the one next to the starter cover.

I was a little confused on that. I got the IPL today and it didn't show anything there as well. Thank you for clearing that up for me. All the rest of the AV buffers are in good shape.....lucky me.

What part of the state did it come from?

Bill

It came from North Central. Out of respect of the man and his family, I can't give away the exact location.
