Nice site, been lurking for a while and finally joined up!

Been using a Husqvarna 455 Rancher for a few years and really like the saw, but it's time to step up to something bigger to better suit my needs. I'm torn between the Stihl 440 and the 441. They seem to be fairly similar to me, the 440 is about a pound lighter and about $60 more. The 441 supposedly has newer technology, more fuel efficient, less vibration, yada yada yada... The dealer says he'd go with the 440 any day over the 441. Now, does he just want to make more profit, or is it really a better machine?

I plan to run a 24" or 28" bar and the saw is only going to be used for the big stuff when I need it. The 440 is going for $819 and the 441 is $769, both with the 20" bar. Both come with the Pro Kit, and he's selling me the 28" bar for $45, chains are buy one get one.

Which would you go with, and why? Excited to add a second Stihl to my lineup (have an S10 from my great grandpa). Thanks!

You had your chance:) I bet that's a 10mm cylinder:clap:

still for me the 044/440 feels WAY better then the 441 and ive owned both and no longer own the 441. granted havent own the 441cm.

but cant really go wrong with both.

I stopped and talked to a tree service about getting some wood and chips, they had a pretty new looking 441. They REALLY REALLY LIKED IT.

Ok now, we seriously gotta get a dislike button....

I bought a new MS441 in 2006 and did a muffler mod on it, it was a great saw, smooth and powerful. I am a new technology kind of guy so last saturday I traded it for a new MS441 R C-M. I got a chance to run it some on saturday afternoon and I am really impressed. I think any open minded person would be impressed with this saw's performance. I am really looking forward to breaking her in this fall then maybe do a muffler mod on it. I am sure it will give my 660 a run in smaller wood but there is no replacement for displacement in bigger wood. Brad, do you have any pictures posted of how you did the muffler mod on your M-tronic?
