At the rental joint today I saw an extended pole saw that if I remember right was an HT101? Couldn't find any info on it at Stihls site. They have it on sale for $549 sounds like a great price , have these been discontinued or something or do I have the number wrong? Looked bigger than the HT75's I've seen?

Not sure if the HT75 number has been changed, but the price is the same I have seen recently.

Just took it for granted it was the HT75.

heay ht 101 is a 4mix engine.
549 is a good price.
i think ours is priced at 599

HT101 replaces the HT75, HT100 replaces HT70. At least through Mid-Atlantic Stihl (and I'm guessing nationwide), the HT75 is no longer available. BTW, retail is $599.

Yup, I had to go by there again today and checked it out. I should have known what it was, it was on the test at the Stihl booth at the TCIA show. Get the answers right and spin the wheel and win something(Stihl foam axe, yeah!)
Don't think I'm ready to be one of the first with the 4 stroke , I'd prefer the 2 stroke, just though it was a good price and might be time to get one.

Don't be scared of the 4-MIX engine, it's been out there for over a year with no real problems. They just put it on the ht models recently.

I bought a HT 101 recently, its still a two stroke, they call it a 4 mix. It runs really quiet, and cuts great. However.....

When I bought it, it would not turn the chain, so they kept it over the weekend and "fixed it". ( the spline shafts were not meshing properly.) I Iwas using it last week and......

now the d**n thing is spinning the shaft again, and I am 150 miles from where I bought it. I can work on saws, but do not feel motivated to work on brand new equipment.

now I know this an individual problem, cause the saw works great
when it works.

anybody else experience this?

I was going to contact you cause I know you bought one Slayer, there are two things you can do.
1) Loosen the cutting head and make sure it is seated all the way, you may need to turn the shaft and make sure it is in- most likely the problem. That should do it, otherwise the motor/ handle unit needs to be fitted in to the tube tighter also.

Or bring it to another dealer.

Rocky, I heard others talking about Stihls weak shaft but never experienced it myself, perhaps it's due to lack of maintenance such as lack of grease. I’m not worried as mine has a lifetime warrantee but I also maintain my equipment well.

When in "malfunction mode" I hear a nasty whirring noise where the shaft meets the powerhead . one day last week it only lasted a few minutes, yesterday I put it away in frustration. I think your right about it being loose.

I'll take to my dealer here, he's really good. still glad I bought it,sure comes in real handy when you need it.

The 4 mix is not a 2 stroke. It runs 4 stroke has valves and everything that goes along with a 4 stroke engine accept that it still requires mixed fuel. Makes a ton or torque.....is more fuel efficient, and makes less emmissions. Awsome engine, the landscapers love them on the weed trimmers.
