In the market for a new chainsaw to be used for clearing small/medium size trees on about 1.5 acres, and for cutting firewood. I am considering the Stihl MS-250, Husqvarna 345, or the Echo CS-440. Based on the reviews I have read, all seem to be more than adequate for my needs. Any opinions on one vs. another? Thanks in advance.

Id say go out and buy 350 husky.... its best choice in that class..

I have had my ms250 almost 2 years now and have put it to the test and it is a strong saw for its size.:D

The 250 is a nice saw at 3hp. Don't know much about the Husky, but the Echo I would pass on it.

The Husky 350 is a much better and smoother saw, with superior anti-vibe and air filter system.

It also has less plastic.

Forget the ECHO, as far as I know they are old designs, and low on power.

If he'd asked about the 350 I might agree with you. As the question was about the 345, I agree with oldsaw.

I would also take the 345 over the 250, without hesitation, even though it has a plastic handlebar and lacks the adjustable oiler, like the 250.

Just as another option in the 45cc class I would probably take the Dolmar 460 with the 3/8 chain over the others mentioned. It is more weight but a better saw in my opinion than the others posted. Same $ also.

A lot heavier, that is.....:bang: :bang:

...just shy of a MS361.

Thats what happens when you dont use as much plastic. haha

Really depends on if the weight is a big factor for you. Let us know what you get.

But why carry the extra weight when you can get all the power and features in lighter package?

They use aluminium, not magnesium, on the 460 and 510 - that adds nearly a pound over the 5100, witch is a pretty heavy design to begin with......:bang: :bang:

Having used them all I would say the Dolmar has more power. It also has the oil adjuster and you can get it with the 3/8 chain. I dont need any tools to get into the top cover and it is built very well.

I realize it is not magnesium and it weighs more, all I said is that it doesnt have all the plastic of the Stihl or Husky. But I do believe it is better built and has more power than the Stihl or Husky, if I was spending the $299 that all these saws retail for I would take the Dolmar.

But everyone is different, some want a light saw and some dont care. I just threw it out as an option.
