Wish they would pick up the purge bulb like husqy has. It's pretty apparent to me that Stihl has basicly cried uncle and given up on producing unique saws. Instead they basicly refine Husky's design attributes and go from there. Good move on their part.
The younger guy has a YouTube channel. Laughs at people who make a base gasket from a beer can. I remember him fixing an 08 and talking some BS. Not a lot to learn, mostly there to promote his shop and Stihl products. They look like they’re dressed to go skiing
Man I hope they don’t do that! Mines not even broken in all the way yet Lol!Great, now I'm going to have to stock up on spare parts for the 400 I have. why on earth would stihl kill off an already great saw?
I’m absolutely in love with the saw it’s an absolute beast! Thanks again for the recommendation! The current 400 is a great saw. I've owned a lot of 60 ish cc saws over the years, own and ran a lot of 70cc saws and it's about as good as it gets in its class. Id never think I'd like a saw better then my old 562xp husqy but I'd take another 400 over a 562 if you were giving either one to me. Stihl really did a good job with it. It's arguably my most used saw unless I need the 36" bar. Had zero issues with it in the 3 odd years I've had it. (Got it spring of 21) starts right up, hot, cold rain, snow. My only complaint with it is the lack of a primer/purge bulb. If you run it out of fuel it can be quite cantankerous to get running again without a true choke and no purge bulb. It will let you know when it's close to out of fuel though.
Seemed like a dogBased on just that video, and the one cut, not sure yet on if you would say “new and improved”.
I'm a huge fan of the 400C. With that said let's see what the 400.1 does when it arrives. The 400.1 seems like a step backwards. I'd much rather have seen them keep the saw at 66.8 cc. I think, as someone else mentioned, it's driven by marketing. The 400 was too close to the 462 and too far from the 261. Regardless I thought the 400 hit that balance between cc, hp and weight to become a classic enduring saw in Stihls lineup.
Me too. Still need to grab a spare or two for future usesBTW I am hoping a 400C cylinder will bolt right up.
Looking at the layout of the 400.1 it just might.Me too. Still need to grab a spare or two for future uses
If the muffler is choked up it should be simple to fix as it's a split muffler.I forgot all about this thread.
Some pics I shared of the 400.1 in my chainsaw repair group from overseas with dropped .1 off. Labeled 400 C again. So pay attention when ordering stuff in future.
Every video I have seen of this saw has been. Unimpressive to say the least. Makes me wonder if the muffler is choked down like echo does saws.
Yep same done on new huskys and echo's too. Gut those suckers. If the muffler is choked up it should be simple to fix as it's a split muffler.
Not a fan of the plastic handle.
I don’t know, can you really tell from a video! Someone needs to get their hands on this 400.1 and compare to the current version.I forgot all about this thread.
