My MS170 and I had a short session this morning at the firewood pole pile. Yesterday, it was the Echo CS-302S. An old man knows how to have fun. (I'll hurt later lol). Life's great when you get to do fun things like this.

I've been really pleased with mine. I know they get a lot of hate, but the darn think just keeps running year after year...
AND they're light. I like that. I had a heart attack a few years ago and it robbed me of a lot of stamina, so I need a light saw.

I enjoy using my MS170 and it has been a reliable starter, light to hold and economical with fuel. It did have problems with the spark screen blocking up which I thought was caused by running too rich but as there is no mix adjustment screw I just cleaned the screen if it seemed to be lacking power.

I noted the air filter arrangement let lots of wood dust into the carb unless a new filter is used every time the cover is removed.

My filter modification has fixed the problem and the screen has not become blocked again many tanks later.

I’ve never used the 170, but have the 180 and it’s an amazing little saw. Punches well above its weight.

If they put an adjustable carb on as standard, it would be even better.

There is really nothing not to like.

Having used a huge array of stihls saws from all different decades, I have fond memories of my 180.

I couldn’t pass up the trade of the 180 for the Stihl 076 Super though..

Wow, that's a saw. I don't think I could carry a monster like that anymore. I'd have to tie a rope on it, and drag it. :)

Yes don’t want to be carrying it too far! Haha

I've often pondered some kind of backpack sling for these bigger saws. A 3-point harness perhaps. Clip the bottom to the bar-scabbard, loop the straps around the shoulders, and clip to the rear handle.

Though, a bar that long, and you might actually be dragging the tip on the ground. ;)

Probably wouldn't need one for an MS170. But on second thought, it would be even more handy for trekking through the woods... <...scratches chin, ponders...>

I prefer the ms 171, 181 saws they are much better than the 170,180.
Interesting, what is it about the 171 and 181 you prefer? I looked at them when I got my 180 but they are 1.5lbs heavier than their predecessors for the same power, flippy caps and single bar nut design didn’t inspire confidence.
