Here in Norway the 290 and 310 are not even offered for sale.

The "Farm Boss" designation is used on the MS390 and the basic, "non-pro", MS 260 (called 260 FB).
The 390 cost less than the 260 FB, but I have never seen a single one even at dealers, so I suspect those are not very popular either.
Here MS290/310/390 are missing completely from the Stihls list. I have saw once one new MS290 in something wierd shop, dont know how it reached that place:confused:
There I had a closer look on it

They're a US built saw so it's no suprise you guys across the pond don't see them. They're everywhere here. Except, of course, here at AS as they are way too heavy to even be considered as anything but a novelty to be bought by city farmers.

Ms 290

Just used the saw for the first time ... it cuts like a hot knife through butter and it's still not broke-in yet. Another tank or two of fuel should do it. I did notice that for several seconds before the fuel runs dry it behaves like the chain is dull. You don't notice that it's not getting the fuel only that the power drops off. Makes me wonder if the original post had a fueline problem.

Sounds like it may be lean. I'd try opening the high speed needle a bit.
I hold high throttle and open until I hear some slowdown, then go in a bit and try it in a heavy cut. When it's right, it will have good throttle response and good torque when loaded. This stuff is in the archives many times, I think. A lifetime of model airplanes helps!

I am pretty sure that the 290 and 390 (not the 310) are built in Germany also - at least they have been.
The power ratings are slightly higher than on the US versions.

The power ratings are slightly higher than on the US versions, test results show 3.0 kW flor the 029 Super (1999) and MS290, 3.4 kW for the MS390.

They may have also been built in Germany but everyone I've ever seen said Made In USA on the starter cover but that's no suprise as I live where I do. No big deal really as the guy already has the saw and will likely be pretty happy with it as long he takes care of it.
