That's ridiculous. But I've been done about the same way. Sold me a bad saw and told me to take a hike. I've been a stihl guy for a long time but I'm getting away from them one saw at a time as mine wear out because of this. I have about 20 saws in my current fleet and 3 are already huskys. And about to add a couple more.

Again, way more hassle than this is worth. Pay Rupedoggy $500 for a running saw and let Stihl take their time on the other one. When or if you get the other saw back in operable condition from Stihl, sell the Rupedoggy saw or the other saw and get your $$$ back out of it.

No way would I let a chainsaw bother me this much. It's a chainsaw, not something difficult to source or replace in this country. I decline to accept the stress.
If I had 500 I would but I don’t I spent what money I had on the saw So I could work and put food on the table for my family without it I have to pass on lots of contracts and jobs because the next biggest saw I have is an 026 and it won’t fell a lot of the trees around here so my stress does not come from actually getting the saw fixed it comes from worried about where my families next meal is coming from I had a good collection of saws but while I was incarcerated my ex-wife sold them now I’m left with a 200 T that barely runs a 026 I put together from junked saws and an MS 180 That a lady at my church gave me.

Holy ****.... this story is insane! I can't believe a company like Stihl would risk destroying their reputation by screwing someone over like this instead of just offering a full refund or a replacement saw.

They are trying to repair the saw that grenaded??? That was an amazing story, I was laughing thinking to myself that no way now could they do ANYTHING but refund or replace it. That engine is JUNK.

If this is any indication of how Stihl treats their customers, I don't think I'd ever give them a dime. I hope you win this fight!
Yes they were intent on fixing that saw but ran into issues sourcing parts I think their big thing on this whole deal is they don’t have a saw to replace it because the 461 is out of production and I have made it abundantly clear that I will not accept a m-tronic saw

I’ve been a Stihl man all my life to I currently only have 4 saws because all of mine were sold by my ex-wife while I was incarcerated I have a Ms200t, 026, ms180 and the 461 Unfortunately the nearest husky dealer is 70 miles away

I'm a Stihl dealer up here, and I am flabbergasted that this was/is being handled this way.
If they wanted to find another 461, they could do it. Simply a matter of tracing the serial number to various dealers, and could also check the registration to see if it has been registered. after that simply a phone call, buy it back from the dealer and drop ship it to you.

After that, there is no point in trying to save anything from the first saw. I think even my local rep would agree with that!

The 462 with the m tronic would be a nice saw, I would let them switch it over to one, but with FULL warranty!! if the m-tronic screws up, they fix it.
The first versions were problematical, now they are pretty good and reliable.

If it came down to putting food on the table and doing jobs vs having a non-mtronic saw and not having money and passing on jobs for 3+ months..i gotta say id take the 462 and warranty and make some $$.

If they would do a 462 as a replacement I would consider it but as of right now to get a 462 I would have to pay the 240.00 difference in price but I’m still not convinced that the m tronic saws will hold up the man I worked for bought 6 of them and all of them were scrap within a year. I’m done trying to get them to do right I’m just gonna let my attorney handle it. Until then I don’t know what to do. I guess I’ll have to keep doing sub contract as a climber and make half what I should and do twice as much work. At least till my 200t dies and it’s on its last leg after that I have no idea.

I tried that but because of the problems I’m having no one will touch it they said I have to go back to the original purchasing dealer
That's bullsh1t Dave.

Been running 3 M-tronic saws for a few years with no problems. The 462 has been strong and reliable. I didn't read all the replies but contacting Stihl is your best bet. Go to the top.
If you do Facebook post your problem on their page for all to see. I'm sure that will get someones attention.https://www.facebook.com/stihlusa/

If you could get a new 462 with a full warranty and convince them as a straight trade. Let them eat the measly small cost. Tell them it would save them cost and hassle. Your lawyer is going to try to get lost wages etc. It could be a win for both sides.

I think you'll be doing ok with a 462 and back in business faster. The faster to move on, the more accepted Stihl maybe to push under the rug. Who wants bad publicly on Facebook and elsewhere.

If you find you dont like the 462 then sell it and get something you want. But you need to move on quickly as it will wear you out.

Stihl dealers have no issues getting parts. Especially for a saw as new as a 461. Someone is FOS. YOU need to call Stihl and get this sorted out.

Because of the virus they are having some trouble getting parts shipped. Several of the dealers around here are running out of certain saws, pole saws and parts.

Crap like this is why my work is going away from our local stihl dealer. We dont have anything saw with mtronic. So I cant comment on that from a stihl stand point. Weve had 6 month old brush cutters and weedwackers there for months. They are also a ferris dealer. Brand new machine cut 20 hours last year. About every 3 hours one of the hydrostatic would start leaking. Now were buying husqy and echo from a different dealer, about 15 miles farther away.

Now there’s an idea I’m not big on Facebook so I hadn’t thought of that but I’m sure they would do anything just to have me take it down
