I've never encountered finding o-rings to be such a PITA, but I guess there's a first time for everything. And I'm apprehensive to buy a kit, since I'll probably never use 90% of it.

I have a lightly used HD-5 off of an 039 that has springs on the adjusters also have a like new air filter for it if the O-ring thing does not work out.

Hi all,

Well, I guess it's time for me to be "that guy", asking for a breadcrumb of a part.

I'm working on a neighbor's Stihl 029 Super, and while rebuilding the carb (Walbro HD18B), I found that the adjustment needles have o rings instead of the typical springs to stabilize them.

I was wondering if anyone has two of these o rings kicking around. I've tried eBay, tried several Stihl dealers in the area, and have tried most of the auto parts stores, all to no avail. One of the o rings on this carb is reusable, the other is not, so I'm just gonna replace them both... if I can find them!

I called a local Stihl dealer, who mentioned that their typical strategy with these carbs is just to replace them... since they say that a kit from Stihl is almost the price of a carb! And once you add on the labor cost, it's actually cheaper to just slap a new carb on!

And I have tried finding some springs, but the adjustment needles on the 029 carb are pretty short, and of a small diameter as well, so I've encountered difficulty in doing so. The short length of the needles requires one to press down pretty hard on the needle to compress the spring enough to get the threads started, and I'm worried about damaging the needle end, as well as not being able to seat the needle enough due to the presence of the spring.

Any parts or ideas are more than welcome. I'll try to keep on top of this thread, but it does move quickly, so PM's or email to [email protected] are preferred. Thanks a lot!

1/4 pitch chain repair links

I need at least a couple repair links for the above. PM me if you have any for sale. Tom

I have had good luck with putting an o-ring around both needles. This seems to stop them from moving.

The o rings aren't in the kits I don't believe.....

I think he meant a kit of O rings. Thats a good thought, capture both needles with one o ring. I've got lots of larger ones, the little tiny ones seem to be scarce.

PM me your address Bryan and I'll send you some assorted ones, if you can wait a few days for them.

FWIW, the part # for those O rings in my IPL is 4203-122-3600. They're referred to as "sealing rings" and may actually seal instead of just providing resistance to keep the needles in position. There would also typically be caps on that carb.

Good post.....and something to thing about.

They definitely do seal. I pulled the carb apart to clean and rebuild it, and one of the rings fell apart. I put it back together, and initially made the assumption that the rings solely provided resistance, and immediately had an air leak.

Thanks for the part number!

I have a Jonsered full wrap (straight across and painted black) that I adapted to fit on a 272. It worked ok but you could just get the chain brake released before running out of throw by hitting the handle.

FYI. A 372 full wrap can be made to fit nicely on a 272.

I am hoping that there is somebody out there that likes half wraps and needs one to complete their project, and has a full wrap to trade.

I have a 372 and a 272 half wrap up for trade for a 272 full wrap.
I will keep posting this for a while, hopefully somebody will trade.

i find my self looking for a clutch cover for a echo CS8000 i really don't know what all will inter change with it. I got a few parts but greenslips to make up for it.

i found one on a replacementparts.com but they want about 65.00 bucks including shipping for it with out the chain brake.

I know this is not "chainsaw" related but it is 2 stroke related. I'm working on a Huffco Little Tiller. It has Tecumseh enigine on it. I'm looking for a recoil housing for it. PM me if you might have something stored in the parts pile. I have saw parts and of course $$.

I got a small 2 stroke Tecumseh off a snow blower that may work. Can you post a pic?

Edit: PM sent. ;)

Bryan-

I can send you a couple of these o-rings from junk MS-440 carbs I've torn apart in the past. They're the same parts as those in the 290 carb.

Lil' Hoe, huh??? seems to me that Scott probably could help you out in that dept, ya know, with his HIPPO,cat-riding-whale, and NOW slap-happy GUMBY... ;)

That recoil should be a fairly easy find... those motors were popular before the Mantis' came out :)

wish I could help..

For those waiting for parts from me, I apologize...I underestimated my work load this year (in, and OUT of work :dizzy: ) and the dedication to my 7month old Son :)... I have not really touched any of my own projects to speak of lately... just acquiring parts for when things slow up just a bit..
