cool fellas ,yeah was going to do the same ,use the phone wifi to run the lappy,yeah I never been much for apple ,everything just has to be different with them,seems to be a lot of hype with the iphone,the younger gen seem to lovem...............man I must be getting old

The reason I don't like them is that;

a) Apple is trendy
b) they tie you into their world, everything must be Apple to talk to each other
c) it costs all the way down the line to do b). Want music ? Have to have iTunes. Want to download and play music ? Must buy from iTunes. etc.

With Android and I'm guessing Windows phone, you just send your music files across to the phone from the computer and play it. Burn a disc and put it on the phone ? Easy peasy.
Downloaded music on the Android phone ? Hell yeah !
Download an app ? Doesn't have to go through Google at all and there's plenty of free ones that actually work well.
#### iTunes.

The downside is I can't dock the phone in the player/speakers I use, I have to use a component lead but big deal.
Unfortunately Apple have tied up everyone with their licensing, but I bet Android/mini USB docking won't be far away, there's too many Android and soon, Windows phones out there now.

Oh and yeah, I must be officially old too

No app ATM, but it's a PITA if you try and edit something...

Mostly I do what I'm doing ATM, tether the laptop to it.

Interestingly Dave Blears who owns/runs the Aussie Land Rover forum is a computer shop dude and doesn't really like Tapatalk, reckons it often causes problems with forum software, he tends to prefer Forum Runner but it depends on the forum too and who they've optimised it for.

I used to think tablets were just a flash in the pan phenomenon too, then when I did my course last year half the girls were using iPads and if you can cope with a touch screen were brilliant in that situation.
One even recorded all the lectures with it then transcribed later. All their course notes and manuals were available easily.
I ended up taking the lappy in after the first week but still wrote everything down with a pencil and pad.

The wi-fi range of the iPad is pretty poor but there are merits to the bloody things too, so much so I think a Windows or Android tablet would suit me better on the road than lugging around this big old lappy.

Bloody technology, the bastards end up snaring you eventually. Resistance is futile....

The new Microsoft tablet (surface pro) is supposed to be all the rage now, with the geeks im guessing. Basically the capabilities of a laptop in a compact package also with detachable keyboard. The only down side is no sim card option, but I guess a dongle or phone could work. If you want to go all out, the is a Motion tablet which basically has all the features of a high end PC but in the form of a tablet with all the bells and whistles. It also water and shock resistant but a bit exy at 5K.

My resident computer geek is a neighbour who makes doco's, edits movies, vids, etc. and he's just bought a laptop to replace his 12 month old system for video editing.
It has more power than the dektop.
