Around here they love Box, every White or Yellow Box I've cut has varying degrees of chimneys up them, some huge but Red Gum seems pretty much immune.

They will track along Cypress to get to something nice like Oregon/Doug Fir, that's what they've done in this place but they won't eat it by choice.

There's thinking around here they won't touch Iron Bark, but as Neil said, oh yes they do !

You're not wrong there mate. My Dow rep is excellent and probably the smartest chemical rep we have. He did his sums the other week and was proud to tell me that on a worldwide scale he represented 0.001% of Dow's global turnover :D
Hey funnily enough (and here I go off track again :D) but a lot of the currently registered organophosphate insecticide active ingredients such as Methidathion, Azinphos Methyl, and Fenamiphos are actually just as toxic as the the nerve gasses the Germans developed in WWII such as Sarin, Soman, and Tabun. The major difference is that the nerve gasses are running solvents designed to penetrate the human skin and carry the active ingredient with it whereas agricultural chemicals are using solvents designed to NOT penetrate human skin. Our nervous system works exactly the same way as an insects so if we happen to get these chemicals into our bloodstream at a high enough concentration it's bye byes on a very quick scale, within minutes if you get a big enough dose.

The funniest thing about the aboriginals is that they used all sorts of things to abort unwanted pregnancies. Funny thing is that half the time they aborted the mother in the process :)
As far as termite digestion goes it's been a while but I think they colonise their nests with certain fungi to break down the cellulose in the timber so they can digest it. Similar process to ruminants to some extent. I could Google the answer but then I'd be like somebody else here :)

Yeah Lorsban is the original form of Chlorpyrifos from Dow. There are a heap of generics out there after Lorsban came off patent so most people identify products by the active ingredient now.

Heh heh. Too true :D

I had a 2 liter cordial bottle of Lorsban I did attach the chemical label to the bottle in the shed. One day I picked it up and the bottom fell out of it and covered the bench and then the front of me from the waste down. I immediately had a shower (i have a toilet and shower in the shed). I was very upset at the time. This was years before I got my ACDC ticket

Good show Serg,,,, bed time for me, so I can dream all about little critters chewing wood in the night.

I often dream about chewing box myself Rick and I don't think I'm a termite.

Nasty :) Yeah you have to be careful how you store some of these chemicals. The solvents in them are pretty aggressive on plastics that aren't designed for storing chemicals etc. I wanted an AC/DC ticket when I was younger too but mum wouldn't let me go to their concert.

Uh oh. This is where I'm meant to tell you to contact your local pest controller :)
The best protection is doing the boundaries first, providing they aren't inside the perimeter already (sounds like a Vietnam War movie I once watched!). In all honesty mate there are that many variables it's not funny. Despite what I've said about pest controllers above I did indeed get a mate in who is a qualified pest controller to assess my house immediately after I bought it. Those fancy moisture meters are excellent for reading through walls to check for moisture in studs etc. They are however not failure proof and I have seen houses basically written off with termites even though pest controllers have already checked it and given it the thumbs up. If they are already in the framework of the house then contact a pest controller for sure as they are very difficult to get rid of and not something I'd try to advise on over the interwebs or even in person for that matter. If they are in the framework then coating the house in as much Bifenthrin as you want won't knock them out. It is contact chemistry only so they have to touch the chemical to be killed. Pretty hard inside a house frame or under a concrete slab.
As far as chemicals for boundary sprays you'd be looking at Bifenthrin (sold under many names). There are two concentrations - 100 and 250. The 100 strength products are what you'll generally find on the shelf in 1 litre bottles for about $55-60 (you may also see 5L in some cases - I buy the 5L Talstar 250EC product at work but I use a fair bit of Bifenthrin at my place). In a 15L knapsack you'll generally run the 100 strength product at around a 1% solution with water and a soil penetrant/wetter.
There are many termite species that are incidental and do not damage houses. People find them and panic before actually identifying the species. This is one area I have no experience in whereas my mate can tell immediately. You are likely to have different species where you are to my area. In our region we only have 3 main termite species that invade houses whereas in the tropics I believe there are way more species that can cause problems as Dave has alluded to above.

Honestly though mate this isn't something you should try to do yourself if there is any doubt whatsoever. There are so many factors to consider that it's not funny and the repercussions if something goes wrong are serious.

First things first absolutely drown that stump in chemical but remember that to kill out termites that are already in a house you have to kill the nest which is very difficult with contact chemistry such as Bifenthrin :) Prevention is better, easier, and a lot cheaper than the cure.

Friends on mine had to get the pest controller back several times using stronger chemicals each time the house had holes every 300 to 400 mm inside and out. They ended up replacing the trusses and roof before they were done.

Apart from the area being high risk for termites builders used to dump waste materials to fill the void under the porch slab on brick veneer homes making a ideal habitat.

The pest controller guy found one of there neighbors over the back and two doors down had a colour bond shed and fence in-between was massive termite nest. He refused to get rid of it as it was not hurting his shed or fence.

Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control ticket but you already new that

As Matt said Regent from my memory was originally used to treat weavels but then they found out how good it was on termites.
There are other products on the market , Regent has a high concentration and is costly where as Termidore or Terminade have about half the active ingredients but half the price. I just put it on at double the rate..:

You're right mate. Main use was for Banana Weevils. Another cheap source of Fipronil is from some of the dog and cat flea treatments.
If you ever want a really good ant bait get your mitts on some Regent 200SC and mix 5ml in 400g of Honey (or 1g of active depending on what product you use). One drop will wipe out a whole nest. If the ants you're chasing won't eat sweet stuff then mix 5ml in 400g of minced meat. These mixes will take every ant species I've ever tried it on and will knock out nests overnight. I've had 200 acre growers wipe out basically every ant on their citrus property with half a jar.
It took us years to get this mix right to avoid bowling them over before they got back to the nest.
It is absolutely amazing but completely off label of course :)

bloody modern technology my arse:

I just finished up an asignment for my studies. I have to send it to my tutor as Im doing open learning. Just a simple maths asignment, 14 pages of workings, including a couple graphs. I scan it on a new scanner with my new awesome iMac (not) It saves all scans as one file. Yes I see the advantages in this. I then attach it to my email and it gets bounched back! exceeded server limit ie to much info in the one email. Its only 8mb of info wtf!! in this day and age, you would think a TAFE tutor would have a decent email account that could handle that amount, it really isnt much in the scheme of things. So now Im going to have to figure out how to split them up or some bloody thing.

grrrrr what a joke!

if you can compress the file enough then use a third party to store it on the cloud for the teacher to down load I use "dropbox" but other I know use one but I cant remember the name it is "i share" or "we share" or something like that all I know is it get an email asking me to down load the files.

Thanks David, problem with using anything "i" is if the person on the other end is windows based and not "i" friendly there always seems to be a problem. Recently I sent a pic to a mate via email. He could not view or open it. It was the first time I I had done this with my iMac, yet had done many times before with my old HP laptop. I seem to have sorted it by using compressed pdf in the scan settings.

Oh for f#cks sake here we go again,,,,, You are a f#cking lier, did you under stand that.
I never ever told you I designed that twin, you will try anything to hide the plain fact you are a frawd.
Hey stupid,,, when I ran the 3120 twin, there were 2 others competing as well, 1 was a twin 056 super (owned by Clive Brabham) and the other was a twin 181 (owned by Keith Fisher).
Of coarse you follow saw racing history, how else the f#ck do you find out anything, and you also copy other peoples pics and add your bull with them. How many pic's have you posted now that were mine.
Anyhow, those saw those men gave you are they any good, how would you even know as you can't and never could even run them properly.

Gordon clark told me a little about you,,,, I will leave that there as I am not about to drag him into this.

Don't know darcy peck but 1 phone call will answer that.

See that man in the pic you posted,,, the only way you could of ever beat him was if he let you.
I very much dou't you have ever raced him or anyone else for that matter, but on the forums you have beaten heaps. I can ring him as well, I bet he doesn't know you either.

Don't call me your mate and don't fu#ken send me a friend request ever again on facebook.

While i'm p#ssed off with you, please explain this snott,,,,,the axmen still talk about that day you turned up at that wood chop with a saw.
Why not tell the good viewers the truth of what you did when you saddled up to heat no 1 at bula,,,,,,, you didn't finish but on another forum you blamed a faulty plug, tell the good viewers what you did as several compeditors saw it including me.

You must have passed YOUR English exam at school as you have a pretty good handle on some words .... and being your mate upsets you well how do you think I feel man I could sit down and cry.

Where o where does your feebile mind find all these silly accussations now why would I send you a friend request of facebook after all your flat out having friends or keeping them you might try staying friendly with your termite buddies.

See Neil your not the only one who can drop a few names pity I cant recall a few more Keith Fisher came from Orbost Victoria.

Niel get over it your stating to sound frustrated and that's no good for your blood pressure you could pop a poofle valve and we wouldn't want that now would we

Another thing Gordon told me about your phone call we both had a good laugh don't fret to much Gordon wont sell any of his Mac's to you he's a bit like me ring him again I need another good laugh.

Another thing I don't copy photo's of your saws there not worth worrying about as your down a few rungs from the top of the tree now I say a few termites are chewing at you root system

Your bestest friend Bob.

P.S.Neil who are these fellas AND PLEASE NO MORE PROFANITIES IN YOUR RESPONCES kiddies could be reading this thread

I've been the recipient of this in the past, couldn't view the pics at all.

Yup Apple stuff only likes playing nice with other apple stuff. A lot of the time I receive emails from the other side (Apple Land) the images don't work. It's not like email is a new thing, everyone else has made it work for years without to much hassle.
