Ok who would trust these tachos??? Or do I keep tuning via my ear? Or what tacho do I useView attachment 299784

The price should give you an indication of how well they work, the cheaper ones usually have a slower refresh rate. The preferred tach amongst the chainsaw folk on AS is the Fast tach, they are wireless and retail for around $80 US.

I still use my old Revco, been doing the job since the 90's and still works same as it did new.

edit... on a work saw, I just tune by ear.

No saws mate,rod and rifle.

good choice mate.

Around here they love Box, every White or Yellow Box

There's thinking around here they won't touch Iron Bark, but as Neil said, oh yes they do !

wood does not get much harder than yellow box and they like that as well, they make mince meat out of grey iron bark down the coast.
Leave any wood laying around in the long grass and they will find it as well.
Our local pest man explained to me one day why termites do what they do. Problem is we started drinking stubbies and he was still explaining after 2 six packs, and i was lost after the 1st beer I think. Any way he knew what he was saying but the methods available to remove them went over my head.

Hey Neil. they get into Bloodwood un in Darwin, also Ironwood, same as North Queensland Ironwood ( not Ironbark ) but dont eat that much of it
It is called Ironwood as when dead, it is as heavy and hard as iron.

As I have never been shown how to tune by ear, im not confident. I use a oppama pet-1000 tach. I dont use my saws much so dont get that tuning practice. I just follow the manual and go from there. As long as the saw starts easy, revs up well and will start first pull when hot, I know im pretty close. I set WOT rpm to factory as my saws arent modded.

nothing wrong with either method as long as a good procedure is followed and not running stupid lean.

Talk about mission impossible :msp_ohmy: Mrs Dave is getting out of hospital tommorrow...bring me some clothes and nothing i have worn recently...ok...and make sure it all matches...ok but we are only grabing a few things up the street and going home not to the royal wedding...dont be a smartass i like to look nice...ok :msp_mellow: Why cant she be like me,RMs,shirt, jeans good for anything

Ok, I have heard if it but never seen it, I don't think.

You would only need to be shown once Serg, by someone who knows how to.
work saws respond easy when their running right and its fairly simple to notice if they are off.

Gee early knock off today, bloody big storm and heavy rain for a few hours now and almost dark already, up here in the hills.

You're right mate. Main use was for Banana Weevils. Another cheap source of Fipronil is from some of the dog and cat flea treatments.
If you ever want a really good ant bait get your mitts on some Regent 200SC and mix 5ml in 400g of Honey (or 1g of active depending on what product you use). One drop will wipe out a whole nest. If the ants you're chasing won't eat sweet stuff then mix 5ml in 400g of minced meat. These mixes will take every ant species I've ever tried it on and will knock out nests overnight. I've had 200 acre growers wipe out basically every ant on their citrus property with half a jar.
It took us years to get this mix right to avoid bowling them over before they got back to the nest.
It is absolutely amazing but completely off label of course :)

Any experience with jack jumpers and a mix to kill them?

Horrible aggressive things they are, sting is best described as strong burning, and 1 neighbour has anaphylactic reaction to them, to the extent of an epipen carried when out in the garden.

Whose on a break? What did I miss ;(
Anyhoo thanks for the tacho advice fellas ill order a fast tach when finances allow, somebody has two years of tax returns to pay plus a hecs debt

No none at all. I've heard of them though but never seen one in the flesh. If you know what their food sources are though and you can get them to eat something laced with Fipronil you'll bowl them arse over head guaranteed.

They sound nasty, you can keep them.

Hmm, hope they haven't brought them up here with the Devil's !!?? :msp_ohmy:

Take a break, guys. And when you get back, keep the pissing match in private messages.

If both these guys have been temporally banned, I would ask how many times does that happen before a person gets the no return policy? Seems Bob has had a few time outs already and I would have thought prevention better than the cure. See a lot of this stuff on forums, one guy pokes and pokes and pokes until he gets a response, then the mods finally jump in and take both out. If you have been around any of the other saw forums you would have seen Bob's MO and seen it the same with the same responses over and over again. Even guys in the USA know his BS and don't tolerate it.

The mods are pretty aware of what's been going on mate ;)

Really? then why the hell was Neil Banned? he's only defending himself from the constant stream of abuse he cops from Bob.
Everyone on this thread get's along..except for the one person who's only here to cause trouble...shame the mods cant see that.
