Well, this week i got a shock with this new mitsy 4x4.
I got caught before the bottom of enfield hill ( nearly into walcha on the oxley highway ) with road works. Was stoped and in front was a toyota landcruser with a lot of trade gear like oxy bottles and big tool boxes and other stuff meaning he had weight and would be slow on the long hill.
When we were let go he got going quick to get a run up before the hill so i went with him and we then started up, i got up to about 100km and thought i'm getting around him as he will loose speed as the hill takes over.
I went out to pass him and he obviously though piss off and kept going faster, i finaly got to his side and realised its a new turbo V8 and thought oh no i'm going to make a fool of myself here.
I held it flat and got round him and the mitsy kept climbing and buy the time i pulled back over into the left it was just over 130km and still 1/2 km to go uphill and still wanted to pick up more.
I had my usual 44 of fuel and tools so i am sold on the new tritan, a long way infront of my old rodeo.

Years back my old 2.8 hilux use to charge up that hill at round 75km 4th gear, how much 4x4's have changed.

Yeah they certainly have improved Neil and thank god for that!! The old ones are reliable but SLOW:smile2:

Not wrong Neil. My Uncle had a 4.2 diesel Patrol from the mid 90's and had a Safari turbo kit fitted to it. It had all the bells and whistles and he was as proud as punch of that vehicle. Then my aunty (his wife) won a brand new Mazda 6 in a Guide Dog's competition. Anyway my uncle negotiated with the dealer and ended up selling his patrol and getting a brand new Mazda BT50 dual cab top of the line automatic. He simply couldn't believe that such a small vehicle (compared to his truck like Patrol) would out pull, out torque, and out fuel economy his Patrol. He is sold on the new diesels as am I. One thing though as I've mentioned before is I'd like to know where the hell they pull their fuel economy figures from - I'm yet to see any new common rail diesel get near it's stated figures when driven even remotely normal.

Those hill detector 2.4's were slow but wern't they reliable, i am looking for one for my son as he gets his licence in 2 years or so.

Very tough mate for sure

in VIC diesal yes petrol no

Ok, as far as i know in nsw learners can drive turbo vehicles under supersision but not on their own (P plates)... i must check on that one.

Aussie Dave..... I hear you on the hour meter for farm use, some farm utes get more dents than km's, well at least one of my farmer mates its true anyway.

Matt I may be wrong but if you look up the Australia standard for fuel economy figures the testing is done by the factory on a dyno' at what would be 80 klph.

This means the vehicle is not moving so accelerating is not included, a load in the back is not included aerodynamic drag is not included etc.

It is a meaningless number as far as the real world goes, but it levels the playing field a bit and if someone's numbers are 10% better and the engines have similar torque and Kw then it should be less thirsty than the other but you will never get those numbers in the real world.

speeding fine for doing $130 in a hill detector 2.4 hilux 4x4

On of my mates fathers was pulled up by a copper for doing 130klmph $90 fin in the mid 80's in a hill detector 2.4 hilux 4x4 he was coming down the Mingala range.
Danny's old man looked the Sargent in the eye and told him he was going to fight this in court because there was not a judge in the world that would believe that a "hill detector 2.4 hilux 4x4" would ever go that fast no mater how big the hill was you were coming down. It sargent looked him back and said "OK I'm going to book you $180 for failing to wear a seat belt instead is that OK with you" dannies old man looked down looked back up at the sargent and said were do pay the fine and when do I have to pay it by.

apologies if this needs to go to the venders.

let me know what you guys think.
Very Happy

gotta love the links to stihl and husqvarna offical australian sites

without seeing them its hard to say, but i tend to share your conclusion that theres the smell of a rat in the air.

firstly the mini bosses are sometimes $299 here in aus when they are discounted so they are really about the only saws that are seldom worth importing, (pity they are crap)

the 381 doesn't meet US current emission laws so they are not sold there anyway,

as for the husky dont know enough about them.

if you were genuinely going to ship saws from the US to AUS you would get ms261s and ms201Ts and the magnum range. , they are all current latest release saws that retail at more than double here in Oz

not to menton both the stihl models advertised come up on alibaba all the time.

EDIT: well it appears the husky 365 is the choice of the yum cha bootleg lot as well,
