I've been trail bike riding with Robbie Phillis as he lives only 1/2 hr from here. He was on an old Husky auto 430. I was on a piece of #### XR600 with a 21litre tank. His bike would explode when it hit the ground while trying to keep up, lol! :D It was fun chatting to him out in the bush about the GP back when Doohan was doin his thing.

what a grat finish to the last race of the year.

well done to casey, 2011 world champ, 10 wins, 12 poles 16 podiums.

now bring on 2012 and 1000cc bikes already. will be intresting to see the times from the first 1000cc test with all makes present

rob is such a down to earth just having fun kinda guy

He was interviewed by TV at the start of World supper bikes series (he came fourth). The interviewer asked "so do you think you can Win" Robbie answered "well mate, I'm not here to #### spiders"

Al I was expecting you to say "photos' or it did not happen"( I was getting ready to find them and play name that rider:msp_scared:), But I like the fact they you have been riding with him better.:msp_biggrin:

The bikes will have more HP but lap times may not improve. 2002 to 2007 500cc 2 strokes and 4 strokes up to 990CC
Those tracks with long straights will have more top speed next year.

casey stoner

Just some trivia men,
casey stoners parents have bought a small farm up on the table lands only a few km from my mill.
I beleive that casey comes home when possable with mates and tear up the bushes on big dirtbikes and shoot.
have not seen him but mayby will bump into him some day.

i know that there not nessasaraly going to be a hell of a lot quicker next year but hopefully the change will be for the good, id like to see more sliding but with the 21l fuel limit and inch perfect riding style of most of the top riders i think the only slides we will be seeing will be casey.

speaking of slides, who saw casey through turn 13 on his pole lap some of the best sliding ive seen out of him, and ive followed him sinch he first hit the gp scene

aparently casey loves getting out bush for a bit of hunting or fishing, im still hoping to bump into him along a river one day:msp_thumbup:

Nah mate, you sound like a fairdinkum bloke. i believe what you say...........................well most everything! :)

Down to earth alright. No snoz in the air at all and willing to chat freely. Really interesting to chat to with a slant he can provide that most others couldn't on the world of GP.

I was out riding on my own and come across these three other riders near the Wallaby mine who offered me to join them. We didn't stop long enough to remove helmets and they wanted me to lead. It wasn't till once we stopped and removed helmets I said, " I know your face.....you'd be Robbie Phillis" That he was.

A mate of mine who is a Chef by trade cooks at his fathers place of accommodation down at Phillip Island where race teams stay. Stoner and his team stay there and as has Rossi and his team. He has been invited to parties and as much as they are cool, he can't understand a thing they are saying to each other in Italian, lol. He get's pit passes etc.

This is the second time he's invited me down there and haven't yet taken him up on it. I will definitely will next year and maybe even the superbikes.

He met Marco Simoncelli there at the Phillip Island GP.

Billy, their tyes wouldn't last the distance. It was the thing I liked about the world superbikes apart from the tight racing was the sliding as the races were only twenty min's long.

I'm very sceptical about these 15,000km oil changes. The oil gets as black as the ace of spades within a few thousand clicks.

[snip]

FWIW colour means nothing when it comes to oil.

Have done a bit of oil testing over the years and talked to some pretty switched on people and for the most part modern oils in modern engines can go those distances without a sweat.
Remember these days we fuel up with <10ppm ULSD fuel. ;)

As an example back when diesel was a lot dirtier we could go 20,000km between changes on our Patrol using a full syn heavy duty diesel oil and good filters.
All it's miles were heavy towing too.

At that distance the oil was still fine with plenty of life left in it, (I pulled oil samples and had them tested) but we were in front financially from running mineral oils @ 5000km so out it went.
Wear metal levels were the same or lower at that distance compared to the standard oil too.

Some things in it's favour.

Mostly all highway/country miles.
Large sump capacity.
Low stressed engine (TD42T)

Even though the Landy had a more efficient engine (newer tech, direct injected, yada, yada, yada) 17,000km was it's limit and 15,000km looked much better, IMO mostly as the engine was much smaller yet pushed out as much/more power with 3.8 litre's less in the sump (6.8l vs 10.5, big difference)

Short trips and city driving kill oils quicker than anything.
Trips under 20km in a diesel and I'd pull the oil change intervals right back.
The engine and oil doesn't get hot enough to volatilise off any condensates leading to oxidation.

Yeah they aren't cheap. Do you have room under the hood for another air-conditioner pump. Look up endless air - they make one or you can modify your own. I have also seen people use fire extinguisher bottles as air tanks.

You need to put an oil separator on a car a/c compressor in the discharge line and either plumb it back to the sump or regularly top up the sump.

I think Endless use grease or a very heavy oil in the sump of their compressors ?
Either way they must be re-engineered as the standard oil in a car a/c compressor is around an ISO 48 or 68.

Friends have a property over that way and the stockman that works there says that all the blokes that work for the Stoners can't say enough nice things about them.
Very down to earth people.

Thats right Rick, Endless use grease and have to be greased every so many (?) hours. I have plans/instructions somewhere to convert a regular a/c compressor to 'endless' spec. it requires some mods of the internals.

Btw, good to see you back ;)

What Al said is true, btw you lot would all remember Mr Squiggle, Gary McCoy :D

Or that other wild boy, the Go Show, Anthony Gobert ?

Work's been nuts Rudi, it's doing my head in and my silly season is only just starting :dizzy:

I finished early today, got home around 4:00. :D (and promptly fell asleep on the lounge, i don't think I forgot a job ???)

BTW, I'd be interested to know what Endless do inside too.

Have a new 150cc Valeo swashplate (nee Diesel Kiki) compressor here that could be used for an onbord air setup.
