personally I like the stance of stihl " build a quality product that is basically at the top end of its class and say this is it buy it or don't" not the "i know lets build a detuned version of the same thing and make the guys buying the "real" version feel ripped off by selling it 50 bucks cheaper" attitude of others.

Masculator, chew on this; how do you explain the 170/180, 210/230/250, 290/310/390/ 291/311/391, 270/280, 171/181????? and the 460/440 aren't that far apart.

I don't agree if i had the choice of getting the real thing with full power at the same weight for 50 bucks more I would, and like I say it is why some very good saws never became popular and have been dropped from manufacturers lists. I.E. stihl 084, 064, ms 650 etc.etc.

The manufacturers don't produce them for no reason....there is a market for them.

Look on ebay Aus and you will see more 365's than 371/2's as an example.

Just look at Stihl the 290 which is the smallest in the 290/310/390 is the best seller. It wouldn't surprise me if the 6400 is the best seller from the 6400/7300/7900 from Dolmar.

why would you build a detuned version of a saw??? it costs the same to make it, you cannot sell it for as much, people don't want to buy it because it is the same saw as the one which outperforms it. Take for example the stihl MS 650, which really is a stirling saw, but because it was basically the same saw as the ms 660, but lacked the power of the "bigger brother" it never gained the popularity that it really should have enjoyed or for that matter really deserved. It is also why the ms 460 has enjoyed its time in the sun over a similarly positioned 441. Although the 441 is a great saw with a lot of innovative features the 460 had more power for the weight and thus actually gained a lot of popularity where previously the 440 had enjoyed it. There are a number more similar examples, but I know if I was buying one of those saws I would be paying the extra and getting the whole saw!!!:dizzy:

Your points are well made, but keep in mind that here on the site we're all power junkies and a detuned saw is never really going to make any sense given our perspective.

But these models make a lot of sense marketing wise in the real world, and they sell awful good. For the average guy, that 365 is not only a great buy, it'll do just about anything he ever needs it to.

All "normal" people (non AS members), have no idea that the 353 ex. is a detuned 346XP, and is very satisfied with what he´s got!

It´s the same with the car factories, here in Europe, the average car is available in 1.6L, 1,8L, 2,0L and 2.2L, although this is a fact, the one that´s sold the most is the 1,8 and 2,0! Not the most powerful!

Ok Bob I see your Husky's, Jonsereds, Cub Cadet Log splitters, now where do you keep the all them Exmark's you're selling?

In 2009 I bought a new 372XPW with 24" bar for $721, in 2010 I bought a new 365 Special PHO for $500. I like them both but use the 365 much more. At those prices I would buy another 365 ten times before buying another 372. Everyone's waiting for the much heralded 562XP, with the economy the way it is, I see the 365XT stealing a few sales. I'm not talking about you guys here that want one, many of you can have any saw you want. I'm talking about the guy that wants a new really decent saw but has other economic considerations to balance. What does a 562XP sell for? Over $700?

Are they cheaper then the original 365 special?

Also what model of husky saw is that on the wall w/ the grey cover? I just figured it out, its black so Jonny red.

spike 60,

Couple three questions

Would it be possible to check out and let us know if

1- Is / will a heated handle model be available?

2- After you've run one, could you say how the saw compares
to the 362XP?

3- Guessing it's wearing a 20 inch bar and chain in the pic. Could
you throw it with B&C attached on your UPS scale and give a
weight?

Thanks in advance

Take Care

Doubt we'll see a "G" model with heated grips.

Barney34 bought one for himself yesterday, so we'll be hearing from him. (The one he tried briefly was soneone elses)

I also have a logger who has been running 365's stopping in after lunch to buy one today. His feedback should give us a pretty good idea of how they compare.

I'll have to wind one up for myself and drag it along to the GTG's this year.

I haven't looked closely into it as the "G" models aren't really necessary here, but don't they only come on XP saws?
