Homelite XL850/XL870/XL921/XL923/XL924 .. need the back/inside part of the muffler. The 'fat' half that mounts up to the cylinder. Have some Mac/Homelite/Poulan parts and pix of dead US leaders. Thanks!

Old Poulan

Looking for a 24" bar, D176 mount, .50 guage, 3/8, 81DL, to make a half dozen cuts. If I have to pay $80 at Bailey's OK, but did not know if there is a place to look for used or non pro bars in that length. Got a big cherry down and the base will be a workout for the 20" bar I have. Don't know all the sources for parts being new to old saws and bigger bars.:rolleyes2:

Thanks

cmarti - same bar mount works for McCulloch 10 Series and 600 Series saws (605, 610, 650, etc.) chances are you can find a good used bar & chain somewhere (CL, e-bay, etc.) or buy an entire parts saw for $25 and just use the bar and chain.

Mark

Thank you sir, I seem to spend alot of time on ebay anymore:).

take care,

Chris

thats interesting to know.

Looking for a crankcase gasket.

Or, scan it and post the scan full size so it can be printed and cut out for a pattern.

Would beat making one from scratch.:msp_scared:

Carl, the part number is 507430190
Same as Poulan Pro 405/455. A quick search showed they are under $5.
I have some new case gaskets, but I'm not sure if they are the 40 series or the larger 50/60 series.
I'll check them in the morning.

You have to look to be sure the bar in question has the required oiler holes. Some 10-series Mac bars (old Oregon D276 and Windsor MXT) don't have the separate oil holes needed for running on a Poulan, XL-12 Homelite, or Echo.

Going the other direction.............some old Homelite XL-12/Poulan 5/16" slot bars (and the 3/8" slot Homelite/Poulan/Echo D096/D196 bars and some UXL/TXL used with 'S' spacers) only have those separate oiler holes............and not the 'oil through the adjuster hole' passages from the adjuster hole to the bar groove (that are needed for use on the Macs).

A D176 mount bar is the current Oregon 'universal' Poulan/10-series Mac/small stud Homelite/Echo bar (as it has a 5/16" slot and both sets of oiler passages). Of course you can make the needed modifications to make the older 'more specific' application bars oil right on your saw...

Carl already bought one. I have a whole pile of 40/41/42 gaskets but I was too late in offering him one.

Well, as it turns out, I have torn down two P-41s. And, if I find a serviceable piston w/rings I'll build the second. So, it is good to know who to 'ding' for a gasket.

Which brings up the next question: Will a piston w/rings from a P-39, P-40, P-42 or a Poulan Pro 405 work in the P-41?

We have been eyeballin' IPLs trying to sort this all out.

This whole exercise is to gain confidence to overhaul the PP 655 stashed in the corner.:D

Carl.

I know the P42 and P39 use the same piston as the P41. I'm not sure about the 405.
The Farmsaw used 2 different pistons. One is the same as the P41, and the other is a single thick ring piston. I don't see why the single ring piston wouldn't work. Your P41 should have 2 thin rings.

I might just be able to supply a 41 piston and rings along with the case gasket.

Deff. keeping that in mind. Working on getting the first one going with the 'serviceable' piston w/rings.

Why do the thin rings remind me of retainer rings I've seen on occasion? For example: As a retainer ring in the outer race of a heavy ball bearing for the seal/shield.

I think Pioneer went to Spirolox with a 'different' idea for piston/cylinder sealing.

Definately going to do the PP 655 after I'm done with the 41's.

Part Numbers for Lombard

Any body out there know much about the lombard AP-42 series? Specifically the drive sprockets. My buddy has an AP-42D that needs a new drive sprocket and the only numbers that I can find on the old one are - 2-1491- nothing else. We have tried all kinds of old homies and such but nothing swaps over to this one. I was wondering if there are any rim systems that fit these old monsters. Where to find one or even if anyone has an old sprocket(or rim system) that is in good condition that they would let go of? Or even the correct part numbers so we can look for an NOS one. Any info is much apreciated.....
