I'm betting that the Homelite XL12/SXL saws are the winners here. I believe they went 20+ years with than one. Besides the duration, there is the amount of saws produced, as well as the number of them still running.

That would be my guess too. Thirty years ago everybody cut firewood, built fence and cleared their property with those old Homelites. It was the original Farm Boss in my neck of the woods. Everybody owned one with the exception of my Dad. He bought a 361 Poulan which was a copy of the Homelite and it turned out to be a good saw too.

i sure have seen alot of 028's, wood boss's, farm boss's, Super, whatever the models, ive seen a bunch of them. my old man had an 028 AV Super for around 22 years, prolly the best saw that he has ever had(replaced it with a 290) and regrets it every time he uses it

028's were made it seems like forever. 1977-90 in the US? maybe andy can correct me if i'm wrong

Cheapo$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

There is a huge mound behind my brothers shop to prove, not to mention they are cheaper to buy than fix, and chances are it will die from poor maintenance or bad fuel. Walmart has been pumping out those tacky green and purple saws for at least a decade (not including whatever other models of the same saw they put out in different colored plastic). I would bet the ratio of those things is 100 to 1 for probably most any saw ever produced.

Another one you are forgetting is the mighty Remington Electric, haven't they been making that same piece of broken oiler slow cutting junk for 30 or more years, and at $50 a pop they probably have sold quite a few of them.

It doesn't mean that they are good saws, it means that people that use a saw 15 to 20 minutes a year are cheap and don't care. Even most of the folks who are looking for the "best" saw they can find are just looking for the "best" saw they can find at walmart.

:hmm3grin2orange: walk around your neighborhood and count saws, chances are that most of you cheap @$$ neighbors have one of these saws.

What about the numbers of "Professional" saws sold by size?

50-60cc?
60-70cc?
70-80cc?
80-90cc?
90+?

What's the most popular saw for cuttin' a tree?
Why the 029/290 leave quite a legacy,

So many owners and so few do complain,
But come to this site and they must explain,

Why have a saw case that splits the wrong way?
And uses no magnesuim, all plastic I say,

You must be a fool and a homeowner to boot,
And Mr. Saw Troll says the answer is moot,

Then talk of improvements and a favorites brand,
Just how that all fits, I don't understand,

On a Saturday morning hear the Farm Boss's song,
Can millions of homeowners really be wrong?

thats beautiful joatman...we could set that to some slide guitar music and take it to the road...new meaning to "unchained poetry" Po
