I had no idea what an XF even looked like.

Now that I do, I know that I was right in my post. I love it when I'm right. I just wish that happened more often then it does.
It must be due to the carbon monoxide from all of that Garage Logging you've been doing.
If looks could kill, I suppose that there are some that would be susceptible to dying from laughing so hard. ;)

I was also of the opinion that Dano was the most annoying person to roam the halls of AS.......thanks for proving me wrong.

I am a diehard Stihl loyalist, but this is a very cool looking saw:

I think it ate an early Corvette somewhere along the way....

I can see some early Corvette lines in that saw.

I'm impressed that you have kept track of me and my ways. It is kind of weird though. o_O

As far as annoying goes, that's pretty subjective, depending on the topic of course.

BTW.......who are you again?

True CAD sufferers aquire saws despite financial hardships, need of a saw, condition of saws, or available space. They get saws simply because they can, or its a different one, or they are sure they can fix it quick, etc. Then they get added to the top of the pile in their cramped little shed with the rest of the quickly fixed saws waiting for repair.

I whole heartedly agree with this statement. On top of that, when beer thirty wanders into the evening hours, then the Mrs. is off to bed, I cruise the internet sales and make far more purchases then what I would have made before beer thirty. Hey honey, what's in the package at the front door? Huh? Uh, let me check on that. I'll let you know later...

Maybe, the timeline is about right - the XF's came out in 1960.

Having said that, the saw was actually designed by Sixten Sason, who designed the early generation of Saab automobiles so it might be more accurate to say that the Saab 900 has some Jonsered lines in it...

See the family resemblance? FYI - that's a Saab 96, Sason designed. Came out in 1960, same year as the XF. Just needs a silver top to complete the look...

If I squint my eyes real hard, and shake my head back and forth vigorously, I can almost imagine the resemblance.

I think the pole should be worst case of CAD between these two, not "ever" I personally know at least 7 guys that own over 1000 saws in their collection, and 6 of them have probably never seen this website.... Most people only think they know what CAD is.... comical really
They are called manufacturers. 'Those' are not colections silly. Just because you call them up on the phone and speak with a corporate representetive
doesn't mean you know them. Haha.

Sorry man, I didn't mean to shoot the messenger. Obviously I have a sensitive ego and this came at a great shock. What brings you here? What do they want from us?
*one of THEM heard about US!...???*

I thought about it and deleted my message. It's really none of my business. I need to just let people think what they want to think. I'm not here to pizz in anyone's corn flakes, nor do I have anything to prove. Carry on, I'll just watch from the sidelines... it's really about perception anyway. I look at some guys and think, yea, they have a lot of saws, others are clinical. I mean.....what is the number of saws you need to be considered clinical is probably way different for some people than it is to me.

the pto side is rockstar, the recoil side is pedestrian

Not the only J'red with the Corvette-ish side coves, but the others don't have the distinctive XF humpback. Below are a few pics from my obsession...errr....collection...

Here's a Raket 60.

And the 601, in red and blue.

And then an XH.

I don't have an XG, but it also has the same bodywork.

very corvette-esque, the 601 or XH would be an awesome shelf queen in restored condition :)
Indeed. I'll bet it has a distinctive sound, and if I had one, I'd pull it out for occasional light use. Like I do now with the 009-012 series. I really like the reed valve popping sound, even though they're homeowner saws with weird design quirks

I'm still torn on where to cast my vote. Both of these guys deserve it!

Trying to earn your vote, Brad! I picked up another XF yesterday (now in double digits), working a deal on a pair of Mac 125's, will have a KMS4 headed here from the states soon, and have my eye on a Contra, and 084, and an 020 Super, too...

Hello, my name is TheTone and I have CAD. I am not a candidate for worst case CAD. But I am probably a candidate for most acute shortest duration CAD. Let me tell you my story. For years I lived happily with my first and only chainsaw, a Poulan 2300AV purchased new in about 1982 or so. We cut wood together in a very businesslike relationship when I lived in a home with a fireplace. I moved to a new location. Fast forward 30 years. I acquired a vacation cabin in the mountains which had a beautiful fireplace in the living room and a wood stove in the basement. We had 34 acres of forest with 100 lifetimes worth of free firewood. Sensing I needed heavier artillery I went on Ebay and found a used Stihl 034AV with a two foot bar. Again, things went well. We cut wood together and supplied our firewood needs. But then she became ill. She refused to start. I tried all the simple things, but then did a compression test, did some reading, and realized that her piston and rings were fried due to a seal gone bad. Major surgery was needed. Meanwhile, I needed a working saw, so I bought a used 028WB (my old Poulan was tossed aside like an old shoe). I was able to fix my 034, but somehow that just wasn't enough. If I could fix that saw, I could turn basket cases into workhorses. You can probably write the rest of the story yourself. I looked at sad, broken down wrecks and imagined them coming to life in my hands. The Phoenix rising from the ashes to live and fly again. At that point the disease had taken a firm hold on my rational mind. So what inspired this post? Have you ever heard the old saying that an alcoholic underestimates his drinking by half? Well, yesterday I did an actual chainsaw count. The number was only one shy of TWICE my estimate. The actual number? I refuse to answer on the grounds that my answer might tend to cause me severe embarrassment if my wife found out.
