ROFL That's just mean!

Hey 7 oaks, yes i just used the img tags to get them to show. Looks sweet mate, no idea what it is but it looks heavy! lol.

Have fun!

Some clean-up follow-up pics

Had some time today to do some clean-up of the Contra S today and am pretty pleased with the results. I used the air compressor, HF parts washer and most successfully the HF ultra-sound cleaner.

First the dogs. They were pretty heavily encrusted so just for a laugh I cleaned them in the Ultra Sound cleaner. To my surprise they cleaned up nicely in just a couple of minutes. However, I already have a pair of Contra dogs that I have powder coated so they will go onto this saw and the others will be sanded and powder coated as spares. Here is a link to a thread I started on powder coating the Contra/Lightning dogs.

As you can see in this pic the bonnet has some type of overspray on it - I don't think it was paint but some chemical. The next pic shows the same spray on the starter handle. This scared me as the bonnet is in otherwise very nice shape and I thought it might take drastic measures to clean it like sanding or something such.

I did a test on the bonnet with the US cleaner and was very pleased that it removed the over spray in just a couple of minutes. I was careful to test it on the part of the bonnet that didn't contain the painted "contra/lightning S" logo.

You can see here the difference between the part I cleaned and the green tinted part not yet cleaned. I'm using diluted purple cleaner with the heat turned on.

More to come when I next get a chance to work on the saw. Lots of other projects pulling at me right now but I'm having fun.

One more pic

As you can see in this pic the clutch appears to have overheated and burned?

I have both a sprocket (windsor 7 tooth) and clutch cover with spur (Oregon 7 tooth). I want to use one of these - what would you recommend? To remove the clutch it is "right remove" correct? Is there any other consideration for removal other than spinning the nut in the correct direction? Will a impact drill work?

Also, are these pictures finally showing up in my posts? I sure hope so!

Carl, pics are working on this end, and look great as well!

I have been sticking small parts/chains in the ultrasonic, and we are looking to upgrade to the bigger one soon.

pops right off with the impact. it has lots of meat left too. :)

Thanks Ric...That is a nice comparison of the 3 and 6 shoe clutches.

Thanks LP for letting me know...I don't feel so dumb now.

Yeah the US cleaners are extremely useful. Better than a dishwasher. Some time I'm going to try making a large one. ...Carl

Pics are coming in for me as well. You really hit the color match with the powder coat. A little elbow grease and you're going to have one fine saw!

Hmmmmm....does Mikey have tractor with a hiding place?

Thanks Dave...

"Mikey? Mikey who - haven't seen any Mikeys around in a long time. Think he fell into one of those boilers of his carrying the dead weight of an RA! LOL

Once again another super nice saw. I know when it gets all dolled up it'll look as nice as your others and run strong too.

BUT I heard those words MY LAST SAW about 50 saws ago. Who you trying to fool? If you find another one you'll be all over that thing. If not I'm sending DR. Little Possum up there to check you out.
Hope all is well, good to hear from you.
Joe

Joe...

Promised the wife it is the very last one. She wasn't pleased when it arrived since I'd made that promise before. Even giving her a brand new MS290 for her social security bday didn't calm her down. LOL

Good to hear from you and stay warm...Carl

Maybe she's scared you're gonna hurt yourself with those cc's... Would not be surprised if that's why she really didn't want you to get another saw... because of the fact that you will always try to find a bigger saw. :)

Dave...

I forgot to tell you that I have a yellow powder that seems to be a mach for McCulloch. I don't have one here to check but if you have a small part you'd like me to test on I'd be more than happy to.

...Carl
