Thanks Mastermind for the thread, just goes to show they are so close any one of the three could win on any given day, more importantly it shows any doubters the validity of what a good woods port can do for a saws performance. It also shows there isn't just one brand of saw that will perform or is quality, shows it boils down to personal perference, and there is room for all brands. It should show folks that you can get the performance of a 70cc saw out of a 50cc platform given the work is done by any of the reputable porters here on AS. It sure helps with production time and it will sure help those folks as they get older get great performance out of a lighter platform without giving up performance, I know for me it a ported saw will give me more years of sawing as I get older. It's just like I'll stay with my 261's, nothing wrong with the 2153/346, for what we do we just like the 261's and get all around better service and pricing based on a 30 year relationship with our dealer. If we had the same advantage with any of the other top brands we wouldn't have an issue running them. It's why they make all different colors of saws, different strokes for different folks. I suspect for my line of work and many others it boils down to dealer support and pricing they get locally as to what brand they run. Again thanks for all the effort MM, it's what makes it worth being a member of AS. Keep on grinding!

Thank's for the great post! Your unbiased views are refreshing......as a "grinder" I get to see, examine, and run a lot of saws from different manufacturers......I just wish I would of had a Echo and a Dolmar handy for this comparison.

PM heading your way! ;)

Its not ALL about speed.
If were looking for the perfect 3 cube saw you would have to accomidate lots of points of views besides which goes through a 18" poplar log the fastest.
I would put money on the 261 keeping up with the orange/red turds alot better :)
I think weight should be brought into the debate. (im sure the 555 will win that contest though?)

Id bet 75% of the U.S's 50cc saw owners are the worst with maintenence, so quality should be brought in as well?
I know this wasnt Randys intentions of debating when he started this thread, but which 3 of these saws will be around in 40 years when they have been beat to chit by farmers, tree trimmers, homeowners and firewood cutters.
None! I bet you could still pull the Mac 10-10 out of the fallen down shed dust it off, crank it up and cut wood with it though:D:D
