...Why in the world would you have a red can marked "SAW GAS" full of water..?

I went to a friend's house and while we were going inside, he told his kid to mow the lawn.

When we came back outside, his kid was filling the gas can with WATER!

My friend asked the kid what he was doing and he said he was "washing it out because it had 2 cycle gas in it and he needed to fill it with regular gas".

Now I did hear that the kid got a summer job somewhere....

I am in fact leaning towards going back to the dealer Tuesday when the new saws come in, and trying again. :help:

The gentleman that worked the saw over was obviously new there. The gentleman that troubleshot the saw and handled the purchase / refund was as professional as one would expect. I would however explain my thoughts on how I care for my equipment. It is in fact a tool meant to be used, but I'd like it to look as new as possible as long as possible and not have a "no slip grip" on the bottom before it ever sees the trees.

Maybe I'll get a discount for my troubles.. ; )

I was wondering... are they sure it was 'water'? If you follower the disgruntled employee line... then it could be some other 'liquid' ( I gotta stop watching those 'Busted on the Job' shows...makes me never want to get coffee anywhere or eat out ever again. )

Personally I think that's a great thing to do.

Let the owner / manager know you're willing to let bygones be bygones as long as it doesn't happen again. The fact they gave you such a hassle free refund tells me they're probably very embarrassed about the whole thing. The economy being slow, all businesses want customers.
Like I said before something good may come from this. Rather than go for the discount, I bet you could get them to throw in accessory(s), maybe an extra chain, some mix, pair of Stihl gloves, (I'm a fan of the Proscaper gloves myself), etc. as good will.

Good Luck & Take Care

Ouch thats a bad deal for dealer and consumer. The saw wasnt a loss by any means though water can be gotten rid of at a price... make him an offer! :) The dealers expertiece does make a huge difference at that crucial moment starting a new saw IMO.

I remember when I ordered my 372 new, the kid at Orchelns calls me tells me that its in and says "dude your saw is in and its BAAAD man damn it sounds like a MX bike"

Ah crap, I was worried sick right then about some punk had started my brand new paid for in advance $750 saw and ran the piss out of it on straight gas or worse.

Turned out ok, boss man had prepped it, this kid was just there when he fired it up.

Stopped in to the same dealer today just as the Speedy Delivery guy was leaving. Picked up a brand new 361 right out of the box. This one I brought home unfueled...;) Well worth the wait. The dealer apologized for the last visit, and I got a some files and a hat out of the deal. Said they emptied every gas can in the place. All is well in the end.

I agree with Spike. The guy that sold you the saw didn't dump water in that saw deliberately! At least he attempted to start the saw before it left the store. He probably didn't think twice about laying it on the concrete because it's made to used in the woods in anyway.

Hmm, with gas prices now a days, sounds like something I used to do with Vodka bottles....

I'm glad it worked out for you.

I thought you can not compress water. If it was straight water in the fuel tank. Wouldn't that lock up the saw? Would you still be able to turn the crank?

Good that the story has a happy ending, and enjoy the saw.

Did the dealer offer any insight as to what happened? I'm curious to know what was going on there.

No insight other than what was exposed initially, just very apologetic that it took two trips to complete the sale. Unfortunate chain of events, but life hapens.

Its not filling up the cylinder.. its more like a mist and very little at that.. not enough to lock up the saw...now if you tried to start it under water... different story

Happy everything worked out.

Good job by the dealer making things right, and kudos to you for giving them a second chance. I don't know if I would have if I were in your shoes.

On a related note I don't envy a small businessman trying to hire a good helper. Good help wants good pay and some type of benefits so you generally hire who you can afford. Usually a kid, then when you finally teach him something and he's getting the hang of things he's ready to move on to bigger and better things or try something else.
