We have discussed battery powered tools before so I thought I would add these . I was about to toss these 2 drill sets as the batteries were not taking or holding a charge. They are NICD batteries and are 5 years old, they have been used a lot but always kept charged up. This year however they would not take a charge and would only run the drill 15-20 seconds then just about stop.

Last Thursday I actually carried them out with the trash and set them curbside but as I turned to walk away I just could not leave them there and took them back to my tool room.
Friday night I had a brain wave and thought I should try one more time to get thyem to take a longer recharge. My idea has worked so well that they hold as good or even better charge than when I bought them.
I will wait to see if others have possibly tried what I thought up before releasing any further details.

Hit with a short burst from a 24v battery charger. I've done it with several of my battery packs. Do a search on google, there are several how to guides...

Power Tool Batteries

Jerry,I'm stumped! Are you saying you can refurbish old Ni-Cad batteries, thus not having to buy Lithium Ion for a little while? If it's a cheap fix that would save fellas a lot of money

My wife burns a lot of dvds and cds, the 100 count cases that they come in are great for storing fuel line and recoil cord, etc up and out of the way. I just cut the spindle out and screw the base up to the bottom of a shelf.

Anvil's

Anyone here have an idea how they would price out old anvil's for sale?Someone said that they go by price per pound of anvil,if they are in good shape.I came across one today do not have the cash to pay for one but was interested in the price.I think they were asking $300.00 or $350.00 for it.It has a splitter hole in the anvil and the hole for it of course.

I am going to let a good many guys either guess or post what they have done or heard of before I fess up to what I have done. These 4 batteries would only take a charge for a minute or so and would discharge in 15-20 seconds. I thought they were junk but after bringing them back in on garbage day then I must have been thinking subconsiciously and sometime on Friday evening I got an eureka moment, then went at it and by this afternoon I could not believe the level of charge I have attained on the four batteries. They are not rebuilt or even jump jolted, much easier fix than all of that. How hard is it to get a patent.LOL

Lawrence, it just depends with anvils. My dad still has his Swedish steel anvil, and it's minty nice. To buy it new, today, would run a guy about $1,400.

I've seen old, rusty, dogged, broken down, terrible cast anvils fetch $400 at auction. I missed a decent 200lb the other day for $200. . . I didn't see the ad in time.

Remember the "Ring Rule". . . Bring a hammer with you when you're anvil hunting. When you lightly tap (again, not a hard blow) the anvils face, it should ring. If it "thuds", it's not worth getting IMHO.

Ya got some rep for that one.

NiCad's respond very well to cycling, but you need a specialized charger for this, I've brought back many packs from the dead this way.

Hi Nate
Thanks for the information on the anvil hunting. When I went back to the garage sale today a fella bought the anvil and a whole wack of tools that are used with it,I'm guessing Blacksmith tools for $500.00.Well that's out of my league especially when I'm saving for a few chainsaw related things that I have spoken up for awhile back, from another fella.

Ni Cad Battery Charge

Jerry your a rascal putting out that you have a tip on restoring those old Ni Cad's and not telling us.If you plan to try and patent the process I don''t think you should post the information here.

Other Members

Fellas,I know for a fact that a lot of members on AS have other disciplines besides chainsaws on this site.I would think tools would figure to be a pretty big part of whatever they do as a hobby or trade. So where are these members? Are they so into our beloved chainsaws that they have no time to mention about the different tools that they have acquired over time? Are they not the least bit tempted to gloat or share a bit and tell us about them?
I mean come on,what about that good deal you got on such and such tool's.
What about that tool that you had handed down to you that has a special meaning for you? What about the tools you bought brand spanking new and have never let you down? What tools do you shy away from because they gave you nothing but trouble?
You fellas that have posted in this thread already please try and convince some of the other guy's you talk to on here to get involved in this thread and maybe they will share some knowledge or tips or whatever.Where are the welders/fabricators,electricians,machinists,carpenters,plumbers,etc.
So Thanks for listening or should I say reading my rant.

Woodworking Tools

I could not help myself when I came across a huge garage sale in the neighborhood the other day.Whenever I drove by this particular house I would say to my wife "if that place ever has a garage sale I'm going there".Well sadly the fella that lived there passed away suddenly,I hope he is resting peacefully. So they had a garage sale that was not advertised and I happend to be driving by there the other day and checked it out.I bought a Rockwell wood lathe and a Rockwell Beaver wood jointer for $95.00 both in good shape. They need motors as the are bench top tools that have the pulleys on them but I need to have some kind of motor set up for them.I posted this in the Wood Turning Forum as well.Any ideas would be appreciated as to the right motors etc. There was also a solid steel work bench on 6 inch locking casters that had a box tubing frame and 3/8 thick table top was fabricataed very, very, well and squared $300.00,too much for my pocket.
Thanks
Lawrence

If there is anything I can answer I will, nothing special in my tool department for working on saws, just use a good T handle allen, and torqx for Stihl. And an assortment of pliers and screwdrivers. I recently build a case splitter as well, pretty easy to do.

Are the motors missing? Or are they still there but do not work? If they are there just take them into a shop that fixes them.
