I need to replace a couple of my ropes and was looking at the Fly, Tree Pro Red, and Saftey Blue High-Vee. I have been using Arbor-Plex with good results. I just want a much more visable rope that is great for climbing. There are so many ropes to chose from these days. What do you guys recomend for a high visability climbing rope. DO you prefer a 12 strand or 16? Thanks for the input.

i use the fly and i love it.also had the safety blue but i prefer the fly for the lightness.

I like the Blue Streak now called "ArborMaster". It comes in three different colors to choose from. If you want high visibility then get the ArborMaster's Gold Streak,(yellow & white). The ArborMaster rope(gold streak, blue streak & BRW), is a 16 strand 1/2" @ 8100 lbs tensile, (7.7 lbs/100'). The fly is 11mm kernmantle 6000lbs tensile (6 lbs/100'). For me the choice was easy because I prefer the stronger rope (blue streak), its an all around good climbing rope and only weighs 1.7 lbs more per 100' compared to "The Fly" but gives 2000lbs greater tensile strength! Only cost about $10.00(US) more. Just my .02

My favorite has been Samson's Yellow Jacket. Bright in color and light weight. Second favorite, Safety Blue High-Vee. Never tried the Fly. Just bought the new Velocity rope. Smaller diameter (very light), 24 strand. I've only used it mon-fri this week but I like it a lot so far. I like a small tightly woven rope for a climbing line. Seems to work better w/ the VT hitch that I use.

fly! xtc! go to a retail store if you can. they will normally demo anything you want and go over your setup to help pick out something that will compliment your kit/needs

16 strand is what I use. Ive used mainly safety blue hi-vee. Picked up some pelican rope last summer and have been using it about 8 months. not bad except for splicing. Less expensive.

If your interested in 11mm, Yale makes Blaze. Doesnt milk like the fly and doesnt have the coating that velocity has. I have a piece Im using on my lanyard.

I couldn't find the Yale Blaze. I did find the Yale Fire rope. Is that what you ment? How are the Yale ropes. They seem a little on the heavy side. I really like the visability factor of the rope. No screwing up what your using that rope for in a tree.

Im not sure if the Blaze is on thier website. It has only been out since Aug/sept.

I do have some but have been having problems updating my site to include it. From those that have been using it and sharing their opinions to me, it appears to be the best 11mm on the market.

Other than that, Im pretty unfamiliar w/ the rest of the yale line other than those that use them like them.

Everyone has their own choice and seems that they stick w/ whatever they started on (NER, Samson, Yale...).

Dave,
Is the Yale Blaze a really bright color like the Yale Fire? Is there a way you can send me a pic. I may want to purchase a rope from you. I need a price on 150ft. and 200 ft. Can you get the ropes with a loop spliced into them on one end? Thanks!!

I'll get a pic up here later. Blaze is super high-vis. I've been using it since last summer without a complaint.

Sherrill has it, too. Also the new Poison Ivy which is much like Blaze, just a hair thicker.

Blaze!!!

Fly is #2

Then any Yale 16 strand

Everyone who's opinion I trust has said that Velocity is OK but they HATE the sticky coating. Some have given up instead of waiting for the breakin period.

Here's that blaze you requested:

David- thanks for beating to the punch on that rope. One less thing I have to do!

They have another version that is black and green zig-zag pattern. It's 11.5mm.
