Used a lot of 2x6's from Europe back around 2001-2003. Bought from a lumber yard who bought them as needed, as cheaply as he could find them. If he needed to, they'd come from another lumberyard, but that was his business plan. Had more than one semi-load from the docks in Milwaukee and Duluth bringing lumber in from Norway and Sweden. Nice sticks too.
 
I did not read the article. Is multiple use being phased out in it?

I bet the squirel plants alot of trees. Maybe someone noticed a gap in age in some species. Maybe that bugged them & they decided to do something about it. Must be an indicator species, like all the favorites, spotted owl, marbled murrelet.
