finally found a used makita 6401 at home depot. but they are asking $325 which seems high for a used saw, it looked kinda beat up or should i say well used, had a new bar though. Does the price seem high?

To my experience the Makita chain saw price of H.D.is based on the rental time . The price varied widely from under $ 200 to > 300 . I bought one last spring for $ 250 put a new bar& chain after 3 hr of use .Overall I am happy to buy used Makita chain saw again from H.D. Best regards.

I have bought two of them at different stores.One was $181 the other was $210.I also read in one of the threads that they will take off about $20 if you dont want the 20" bar and POS safety chain. The one I paid $210 for they gave me a new Makita tool set,the manual,and an extra chain.Talk to the store manager and see if they will take $200.I am very happy with mine,Good luck.:chainsawguy:
