my evaluation of solo.experience coming from used saw ,aknowledged.owned 2 . one a 634 that is just plain the best small saw ive owned . especially if i get the chain sharp:) .
667 also used when i got it. but looked almost new.
dang poor power for a 69 cc saw. i adjusted it to get better rpm .
it ran fine but never up to the 036 at 9 cc more.but passable.
which aint what i had in mind when i bought it.
just never was up to what i expected . then one ugly day the top end went. probably as result of my adjustment[,is a given].
as good as the little 634 is id have to say the 667 was just the opposit.the good thing is in the meantime i landed an 036 that is the cats meow, and really meets my needs.not to say my impressions are the final word. mabe theirs some with 667 solos that they can brag about. if so id like to hear it.just my impressions and i got the right:) . but u dont hear much on solo and now u got one mans impressions ofum.as they say jmo.
to those who would say a new one would give a more accurate evaluation ,i would have to aggree.but this is mine:(

me too rich . ive never owned a better saw than this little 634.
thats the reason i bought the 667.but u cant winnum all.

So what do you base your opinions on, Rich? :)

I guess I'm a little interested in hearing what you have to say about the 036. If you've already offered that opinion I'd be happy with a pointer to the thread. Whichever's easier for you.

Thanks.

Maybe it is me, but the 036 lacks on the low-end torque. My Shindaiwa 488 runs just as well at 10cc less. This is where the owner expectations come into play and views are different. I have run my share of saws and the 036 never impressed me. I have owned 036's in the past. I didn't own them long though. Maybe I didn't give them enough of a chance.

The 036 is a great saw, but I think the 044 is much better. You get much more torque and a way better filtration sytem. It does weight a bit more, but not enough to make a differance. As far as the shin goes. From their specs they look to be heavy and underpowered. I dont know as I have never ran one or seen one in person as their dealer network is non existant in my area.

As far as the Shins go, I was impressed with them after running them at a tree climbing jamboree. No spec. sheets were in front of me. Just ran the saws and liked them. I'm not saying that the 036 is a bad saw. To me I just didn't like it. If someone likes it that's all that really matters................isn't it?

just to clarify my post . i like to read evaluations of equipment
on the forum. not only does it bring out discussion and different takes on them, but it helps folks make a little more informed purchases.post is not a slap at solo as mine was used,as stated.
i was disappointed tho as it sure looked to have promise.
at 69 cc .if it had been even close to the little 634 in power to wt.
even the the 372 wouldnt put it to shame.guess thats what i was hoping for . and this particular 667 wasnt even close to that. id still be interested in hearing of different experiences with this saw.

hey russ the rings are gone on it. i went to start it and she no go. couldnt figure what it could be as at least it had always started easily. took it in to the only guy around that works on solos. he pulled the muffler and the rings were gone. no warning or nothing. id adjusted it lean and turned it back so it 4 cycled . but i guess i just was trying to get, more than it had. guy wants 340 for a top end rebuild. dont think so
since it never performed, as id hoped, to start with.let me say i appreciate your efforts to get me a good bar and stuff. ill use them on tghe 036. i especially like the little 3/8 stuff u sent to help me sharpen.
best ive done so far.:)
ps if u need the bar, let me know and ill send it back no problem. it is a good one.
later now
