The man you want to see is the King Himself,
Tom Hall. He's in He's the saw guy at
TW Perry in
Leesburg. Tom is top notch, first rate, good man. Well respected here on AS. But don't tell him I said that. He's also ugly, and you CAN tell him I said
that!
I don't know of a good Stihl dealer in the Valley. There are a ton of small dealers around here, but I just don't know if they are any good or not.
Miller's Hardware in Stephen's City MIGHT be good. They used to sell just saws, with no servicing. However, since they moved to their new location, they seem to have a full time tech. I chatted with the manager late one evening about saws, and he seemed to know his stuff, and spoke highly of his tech. Well, of course, he would, but still , he did seem to know saws.
One place to avoid like the PLAGUE is Grand Rental Station on Route 7 in Winchester. They think they are doing you a favor to acknowledge your presence, and they don't know beans about saws. They rented me an 029 with a dull chain and summer weight bar oil in it, when the temps were in the low 30s. At least, they did after they deigned to notice my presence.
The
John Deere dealership across the street from them does sell and service saws. Good people. I've had my Echo serviced there. I don't know if they've picked up the Stihl line, now that JD dealers have access to it. If they have, and are servicing them, they'd probably be a good choice.
There's also a place in downtown Front Royal. They're pretty grumpy. Dunno if they know a hill of beans or not.
