Amoungst My Saws........Fool That Has Too Many!!!
I did a major pruning job with my tree climbing cronies today. I noticed that my VT was not running smooth......meaning.....it had to much friction when taking up slack. Nothing has been changed, 4 up 3 braid VT. I am using 8mm Sta-Set. When this tress cord was newer it would run real smooth. There are not burn marks and no major abrasion, just normal wear. This is the first one that I have used, maybe this cord is just worn past the point of running smoothly. Any comments?

My cords sometimes get a little grabby when they get dirty. I wash them and they go back to normal. Also is there any chance you twisted the line a little when you tied it. I've done that in a hurry and it affected the way the knot performed.

I think Rich is just overlooking one small detail. I think it just has to do with how he tied it that day. Sure a little dirt may make it act a little differently. My best cords are the older well worn in and dirty ones. The dirt seems to protect it from burning as much.

Rich try just using tying the same knot the same way. This time tie it using those memory pig tails and not cranking down on them so much and twisting your twists so tight. Its more than just numbers of twists. Play around with it a bit and it will come to you just pay attention to the littlest details. Don't throw out those old cords unless they are heriated or burned through in my opinion.

Always small details!

I had a problem the first time last week I used the VT. It sliped or got tieght at the wronge times.

I went to the distel and did a couple of trees. And today when I tried the VT 4-3 it worked fine.

Da, I'm useing the utra-lite, (only to find out how it worked). It was from Sherrill, 30''.

4-4 was to teight, 3-4 was to loose.

I'm getting that the thing to do, as suggested, know that changes in cetain properties of climbing rope and dirt, etc. alway has to have you be more aware of all your gear.

Jack:rolleyes:
