When you mention the word "chainsaw" do the people around you roll their eyes and start to move away?
When going out to a social function are you warned not bring the subject up?
You are lucky if you have a few buds that share the interest and can find time to talk saws while sharing some of the alcohol that shouldn't be in the fuel. Most people think it strange and a bit weird that there could be that much interest in some noisy tool and think you should find a 9 step program to recover. How many saws did you say you have?
So what do you say, do you have a place where chainsaw is spoken?

To have a serious chainsaw conversation- mainly online, or with someone I am buying saws or saw related items off in person.
Kind of depends where you live and the commonality of said tools and their day to day use.
I live rural, farming community mainly, most grown men know of chainsaws and their basic use- but few can discuss the workings thereof.

There is some sadistic pleasure in throwing big chips with a sharp chain on a big saw.
Almost the same as when those big rounds are heaved up onto the beam of the splittah'
Tough knot meets 22 tons... Oh yeah.

But the final payoff is when the big truck drops 2 full cords, and there is $$$ exchanged.

I will likely cut until the day I keel over.

But can you sit at the bar and regale that story to a friend and they reciprocate in kind?

Luckily i am bigger than all my friends (probably because i use big saws) so no one really tells me not to bring up the "C" subject or stop talking about it. I do agree with you though, not many people share our interest/obsession

I do have one friends wife who can be a bit annoying...."Why do you need all those saws?"...... "Don't you buy anymore".......... "You need a real hobby"
To shut her up I gave her a little Poulan 2050 for her 50th birthday. Came as part of a bunch of non working saws i played with. Runs like new again and is pretty light weight, perfect as a first saw.
After the smile on her face when she first used it i feel vindicated.

After buying books, t-shirts, old signs, door mats and even blankets related to chainsaws i may be able to admit I have a slight problem but as i say to the wife its cheaper than many other hobbies guys get into. When you spend your time fixing some old beat up saw that should have never been able to be resurrected then take it out and the chips start flying there is no better feeling. All the time spent on research, finding the parts then putting it all together is just part of the journey and its good for the soul. If more people had hobbies we wouldn't have so many problems in the world
