now i will say one thing it has only had 3 1/2 tanks of fuel through it and allredy it is a very strong saw
a lot better than i was expecting, when i first started it and ran it i didn't think much of it but then i rememberd
that it had a new chain on it so i dug the dogs in and WOW is all i can say man this thing has got balls of STIHL.
I can not wait untill she wake's up good and proper it's gunna be a 660 stompera.

PS and i think me 390XP is starting to shake a litle coz if this thing pulls a 32" with a full skip chain then the 390 will propably go cheers D

not as bad as i thought it was gunna be on the juice any way bodgy ticker remember the more she drinks the quicker
i get a rest. and at the moment it's pulling .404 so i'm impressed

Glad you like big D. I like the 460 tuned to 14,200 BTW, it seems to do good there with the slight modding. :D

I'm looking forward to the 461 D. I was contacted by a feller north of here.....but he hasn't followed thru. I was hoping to have one on the bench already. :(

opps i forgot and thats where it was when i tached it but i made it ritch for the run in it's at 13800 at the moment

13,800 is good in large wood, but in 12-18" stuff let her breathe.

If it can't pull a 32" bar with skip on it then there is something wrong mate. Even my stock 7900 could do that with non skip .404" on a 32" bar. I doubt it would pull it better than the ported 390XPG but you never know. My ported 7900 pulled a 42" bar buried in Redgum with non skip 3/8" but pulling is one thing - pulling it with authority is another :D

yeah i put a few tanks through the 390 with that 32" bar with some 3/8 skip and a 7pin, ya would not want to put an
8 pin on it yeah it would pull it but thats it.
it will be interesting to see where this saw ends up grunt wise after 15 liters of fuel coz it pulls prety good now.
cant wait to get up to andrews to put it with his 441 and see just how much differance there is

matt i like your 241 looks like it's earning its keep with a 16' bar

I gather you mean GB and not BG? :) Yeah GB have made a few inroads into consistency with their EVO chain from what I've heard but when your main aim is to cuts costs AND get it made in China consistency is a lofty goal. The Chinese company you deal with outsource. Then the outsourcing company outsources etc etc. In the end you don't know where the hell it comes from. The best Chinese chain I've used is from the link below. Holds an edge as good as any chain I've used but is probably TOO hard. It stretches a bit too much when hot and I've had the odd tiestrap shatter when breaking chains. It also tends to come out the box pretty beat up and it has no indication of guage anywhere on the chain. It seems to be a bit of a hybrid design between Oregon and Carlton and Carlton presets fit perfectly. The guage is also consistent right through the drivelink and not "stepped down" like Carlton etc. Best part is that you can buy 100' of chain as unassembled components for the same price as an assembled 100' roll! (ideal for you racers :D - unless you started winning with it then you'd be run out of town...). I've never dealt with them direct, only through a 3rd party in China...

saw chain direct from

Matt, I tried a loop of that Chinese chain but I found the amount of stretch is just ridiculous, the chain came off twice cutting this tree

I'll stick with the good stuff from now on

Yeah I mentioned it stretches Wayne but it does settle down quickly. I've been running a few 105DL 32" loops for a while now on the 390XP and they've done fine. A number of my videos in the larger Casuarinas have been filmed while using this chain. I have certainly had issues though in really dead, hard, and dry stuff. I've actually mentioned it to E&S in China as I don't think it has the ability to hold enough oil around the tiestraps and rivets when the going gets tough - it seems to be fine in normal wood but once it gets dry and hard with a bit of heat in it it tends to get hot really quickly compared to other brands. Funnily ehough I sold a few hundred feet into some hillbilly pro firewood cutters running 395XP's up the Darling and they thought it was great.
Over the first few tanks you certainly have to keep an eye on the tension. As always you get what you pay for but in your case I think that was zero :D

It should pull 3/8" skip and an 8 pin rim mate. I used to run that combo a lot but with non skip you can forget the 8 pin rim. The ported and pop upped 660 I had hauled a 32" bar with non skip and an 8 pin like it was taking a Sunday stroll. Used 20 litres of fuel an hour doing it but anyway...
Yeah the little 241 is a ripper :)

well it's getting better she's on tank 13 here and pulling a lot better than me other 460.
24" b&c stihl 36RM chain and andrew's favorite bar, wood is 22" stringy, and tuned too 13900 RPM

well took the 460 out today to cut up a coast grey box and i was surprised at the fuel consumption (or lack of it)
2 3/4 tanks to cut this up 71 cuts all up (yep i couted them lol)

i can remember me other 460 so i don't think i have lost any economy but i can tell you that it has a lot
more grunt, it is just what a 70cc class saw should have.
with the other 460 if you went any where near the bottom spike on the dogs it would just bog down and
stall but not with this one .
and the rakers are down to it should be as grabby as a woman in a shoe sale lol but it ain't

to say i'm happy as a pig in :poop: is an understatement.

gday wayne i got a chicom chain and was surprised at how it did go now it wasn't a stihl chain but it came with a bar
that i bought and did well , now would i buy one no have a look at the differance of the 1st 3rd cutter

attachment.php

the chain was full of inconsistencies like that but after the first sharpen was ok .
strech wasn't to bad but it was .404 and not 3/8 .
cheers D
