Not as much as i needed to lol. Just about 8 tanks i guess. Ill put quite a bit through it the next few months. It likes fuel, a tank isnt hard to put through it!

Any issues with heat?

Sorry about all the questions Durand. I need as much feedback as possible.....

No problem here:D. No i didnt notice it running any hotter than before really. I broke it in back in the summer when it was hotter than haidies and it done fine with the heat. I have a tri ported muffler so that probably helps with heat some, running spark screens though. The ignition timing is still stock, and i keep it tuned just a hair fat at about 13. Pulls like a sumbuck there

Thanks Bro. That all helps a bunch. :msp_thumbup:

I do keep a check on it and keep my eyes and ears tuned in while im running it just incase, but i dont see it being an issue, and dont expect it to turn into one.
Thank you Randy.

randy i have put over 20 tanks through the saw and it don't run any hotter than
the 460 i just sold and it is just as easy to start hot 1 pull no decomp and away it go's
will make a vid if need be

cheers D

I feel better now. Thanks Big D!!!!!!

think i'll start running it on 98RON

I'd do that mate. I run all my saws on 98RON BP Ultimate with the occasional 98RON Caltex Vortex if Ultimate hard to get. A local independant has a 100RON fuel for sale at the moment but it contains ethanol so I'll give it a miss. I know it may not be necessary but for one BP Ultimate is a higher grade of fuel and two it will give you a small buffer over 92RON if something happens while running it. That small buffer in octane could potentially save your saw.
The only reason I asked about run on is that my 210psi Dolmar with pop up etc started to show signs of run on in 40°C+ heat (approx 104°F+) the way it was originally tuned.
I richened it up half a turn which put an end to that. Mine is warm compression though (or was when I last checked it) but the proof is in the pudding and that 460 of yours runs pretty well :D
It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that old mate Mastermind likes high compression too ;) There are a few builders around that have disputed the old compression makes torque theory when I've brought it up before which goes against basically every other internal combustion engine theory on the planet.
When I dropped the base gasket out of your 390XPG and machined a small popup the 25psi odd increase in compression gave a noticable power increase (and throttle response) with no other change to the tuning.

gday all this is how it starts hot and the comp testing was done cold... cheers D

just been watchin some of your other vids ,see what you mean about the revs(phone call the other day)

Im with you Matt i run 96 or 98 RON Caltex Vortex.
Keep in mind the US measure there Octane in a differant way than we do eg
Ozzy 98 Ron is 90 MON or 94 AKI

Yeah I know what you mean mate. When I say 98 octane the US guys probably think I've stolen some rocket fuel from NASA.
That's why I write RON on the end to avoid any visits from the Australian Federal Police or the CIA :)

Compression equals torque. Simple.....the bang is bigger when the mixture is compressed tighter.

Now on an engine that will be running in a 8X8 softwood cant with race chain and nitromethane big compression isn't needed I hear. The fuel has everything to do with the amount of compression that an engine will need to perform at it's best. Just like an engine that's running nitrous or is turbocharged needs less compression than a normally aspirated one.

In engine building there are always exceptions, but when building a saw engine that will be used in real world conditions a certain recipe seems to work very well.....at least for me it does. :D

i have been running the BP 95RON will go to the 98RON retune and see how it go's

hummmm i likey very much

That saw is way to clean Darren, get some saw dust on it! :D

Looking good though.
