Genuine military surplus NATO cans are the best I've found for bulk storage. Lots of garbage copies out there, beware when buying.

I've basically swapped all my plastic cans out for nato cans at this point. There are a few new wavian cans that came with epa spouts, but they arnt the most horrid. The donkey dong and regular half rubber/steel ones are great imo. Fuel stores exceptionally well in them too.

The options for NATO cans are basically genuine surplus NATO and Wavian.

Neato video, guy does a deep dive on the NATO fuel can. Worth a watch.

Similar for me, that pic was ~half the stash. Scoop them up whenever I find a reasonable deal on a reasonable condition can. I do make sure to get only NATO cans, not the US version with the screw in barrel bung opening.

Interesting. I've been using this style for at least 5 years and never had an issue with fuel spilling out of the fill valve. I'm always filling two at a time and they sit on uneven surfaces (my junk in the trunk) while being transported in the trunk, so fuel leaking out is very important to me.

Did the wife screw the fill valves on incorrectly?
Yes. They were loose and not tight.

Why does a gas jug have to be so difficult that it takes a muscled guy to cinch things? I'm a machinist. I know a guy can cinch a threaded connection with a twist and hold huge amounts of pressure. Not so on a stinkin fuel jug. And then the fitups leak too.

My alter ego who wears a tinfoil hat reckons that if you make refuelling unpleasant enough, you'll get a bunch of people saying, "eff this, I'm going battery!"

But back to me now, and I say choice is a grand thing.

I am bad to stop and pick up every gas can I see on the side of the road. Amazing how many get blown out of the back of pickup trucks. The down side to aquireing cans this way is the spouts are usually broken or cracked. I usually buy this type of kit on ebay, https://www.ebay.com/itm/1757463126...b0fboHaPA+tVZjfxCXc1SEkGthM=|tkp:BFBMmsbI0IJl to replace the spouts. Actually, I couldnt find it but they usually come 6 spouts to a pack. I like the fact the kits come with two different threaded caps so they pretty much fit all the can brands. I havent used a spout like the op posted, but I have hated about every other brand I have seen or tried. I find a can with one of those junk spouts, I replace before I use it

That video you posted was quite informative.
Yeah, I agree the us version just sucks.

Needed a 2nd 50:1 can for in the field.
Guy at Lowe's said everyone loves these new fangled no leak spouts.
Any experience ?View attachment 1227007View attachment 1227007
Dear Marley5 , I like these gas cans very much, tractor supply and 4x4 country sells these cans. Just mash the top button and fill your saw or trimmer, I dont have kids around so I cut that piece of plastic off that makes it tuff to unscrew the cap to fill up.with gas. Thanks Buck Oh yea the caps are replaceable.

the old US military cans with the huge threaded caps were designed so you could reach inside and clean them. do you know why the US and Nato cans have the 3 top rail handles?
The copied the cans from the Wehrmacht. The rails are there so you can carry two (empty if you ain't Conan himself) cans in one hand, or two people can carry one can.

I thought the other advantage was the ability to pass the cans down a human chain without the need to set them down or fumble over a single handle. He touched on that in the video, but did not explain it well, and even showed passing a can by setting it down.
