Just trying to figure out how bad it gets out there. We had a good one and just trying to figure out if firing up a saw and brandishing it, then laying into someones tires is way over the top.

That sounds criminal to me, grounds for dismissal at the very least. I would practice some self defense at that time by dialing 911, and going to sit on the curb across the street.

If nothing happens the company owner could get sued by the employees present for endangerment.

This business attracts all kinds.

Run, nope, I'd be keeping him pinned down with a .45 until the cops showed up.

A chainsaw is a deadly weapon in that scenario and around here I could shoot the dummazz and not worry much about prosecution.

OK there was the time the boss pissed off one guy so bad about his choice of t-shirt that the guy chain saw cut his wooden desk in half, with the boss sitting behind it. Police were called on that one, 5 day suspension from city job and the boss had to buy new pants. Or the time a practical joker groundee pissed off the climber so bad that the climber picked up the groundee by the back of the waist belt and started carrying him to the running whisper chipper. Funniest site was the foreman running down the street in full climbing gear spikes clickity-clickity down the street yelling 'knock it off and put that idiot down' Couple of cut tires, no biggee. :)

Years ago when I worked for Valley Tree Service in Las Vegas (around 1981) they hired this guy from New Zealand named Tommy Burch. We got into a fight on the job about the second week he was there and I ended up in the E.R. but was released the same day. He however spent nine days in the hospital . How much worse does it get?

Never had to worry about it much most people see my
lazy eye and the way I am built and don't want none!
I once as this young smart azz if he wanted to see my
bad side and he declined but I am not a big guy I guess
they know I will go until the cows come home and don't
want to chance it!

I shall now endeavor to write you a tale of two "Christians". I was one. This happened on a Stucco job and not trees, but I think it fits.

I was working as a laborer/mud mixer and trying to witness to all of my co-workers. The funny part about all of this is that the only guy who didn't care to hear what I had to say was also the only other guy on the sight who claimed to be a Believer.

Anyway, I was working and singing (as usual) when this guy starts telling me that I need to shut up and quit trying to shove my beliefs down everyone's throats. I ignored him and kept on working. Then he started cussing me. That was when I informed him that a little prayer time in the mornings might help his disposition. He was 4 sets of scaffold up and threw a half full 5 gallon bucket of stucco mud down at my head. He swore when he missed.

I went up the scaffold. Very quickly. Very angry. When I got him by the throat he told me, "See, I knew you weren't a real Christian!" I had him halfway over the scaffold and told him that I was going to send him to God to ask Him personally about my status. This is the part where the Foreman grabs me from behind and we find out that no one was physically injured.

A few hours later I walked up to him, apologized for losing my temper and told him I was willing to forgive him for trying to kill me. He cussed me and left the job. I never saw him again. I was warned at the end of the day that if I ever tryed to kill anyone again, I would be fired.

I personally think religeon at work isnt a really a good thing. Although, throwing a bucket down on another guy is a worse thing. Now climbing up and doing what you did isnt exactly a good thing it does seem somewhat justified. Overall, I guess I am just glad I wasnt there doing stucco.

I spent 30 minutes physically trying to stop a guy I worked with years back storming into the office and killing our infuriating boss. The only thing that finally worked was to tell him that I had worked there longer so he had to wait his turn.

I pulled a crane driver out of his machine and gave him a gentle kicking for not respecting my right to life and not following instruction. (I had nearly got REALLY hurt because he was lazy and pig headed)

I know of a boss (an old co worker) and his boxing worker going head to head for 15 minutes. Crew stopped to watch them duke it out. Boss finally hit the ground, got up and told the guys that he was going to dock there pay for the time they werent working.

disagreements.....

Between co-workers, customers, and now the tax payers.

I once beat the snot out of a co-worker because he was a cocky s-o-b, he took the lumps and was less cocky for a day or two.;)

Had some disagreements with customers before, never retaliated, but often though some baloons filled with roundup would make me feel much better.

Now people write letters to me telling me what a p-o-s I am for not taking down the perfectly healthy tree in front of their house. Or they tell me what a p-o-s I am for cutting down the DEAD tree in front of their property. I just figure these people are mentally disturbed and always keep my cool with them, if they can't get a rise out of you they really flip out!:hmm3grin2orange:

Got in a bit of a scuffle once on the job. Was working row and was well known as a very easy going guy. Well one forman was a real dick-couldn't keep guys longer than two weeks. He was just such a pos to work for. So the gf figured i should be able to put up with him and so stuck me on his crew. No real big deal, i put up with his ???? for a few months. Till one friday, get to the job and he has to do his paperwork. No big deal, usually takes him an hour so me and the groundie go out and get started. Now it was february, cold rain that turned to sleet midmorning. The trees were getting icy and slippery, the groundie and i were soaked and cold and just miserable. I'm climbing a few hours, the foreman is still in the truck. I go over to see what's up and he says the paperwork is giving him problems. Ok, i go back to climbing. Still miserable. Gets a little after 3 (working 10) and almost time to start chipping. Figure i'd get one more tree and i'd have five spans for the day. (I thought that was a pretty good stroke of work for one climber and a groundie on a day that nasty.) While i'm up there i have a scary slip cause everything is coved in ice now-i take a minute to collect myself and that's when the forman decides to get out of the truck and make an appearance in the backyard. He flips out on me while i'm in the tree berating me for not working, for only getting five spans done. I flip-i unhook my saw and whip it at him from about 30 feet up. Luckly got hung up a bit in a oak he was standing under or would have probably hit him. Now he's pissed-yells at me to get out of the tree. He seemed to have forgotten that i was about 12 inches and 150 lbs bigger than him and i was now mad. I burnt out of the tree, was taking my hooks off and he comes over and starts poking me in the chest. I grab him by the throat and slam him against the tree. He starts whining, he's gonna call the gf-i tell him to go ahead. Tense couple of minutes later (i did let him go) the gf show up. He runs over, tells his story. The gf calls me over a couple minutes later, asks me what happened, i tell him. And then sweet, sweet karma-the gf fires the foreman on the spot and gives me the job as foreman. Was rather surprised by the gf's actions but he later told me that he was impressed i'd been able to work with the guys two months longer than anyone else had.

Only time i've ever had a problem with a fellow employee.
