just curious i kinda prefer a traditional style saw in the tree 35-46cc for working around the tree but ofcoarse a bigger saw is needed for blocking

so how bout u?

The smallest one I can get away with... When the 200 is not cutting the mustard I'll go with the 260... Not so much for power sake as the longer bar I have on the 260. I really like the 260, it is one of the first saws I climbed with (026 back then). If that's not cutting it, I'll go to the 361... and on up from there... I'm not into carrying any bigger saw up a tree than is necessary.

well.....here we go..... MS200T until I get tired of "breakin' around" when the 16" bar doesn't make it all the way through......then to the Husky 261 20" bar......then to the MS361 24" bar........then to the 046 with the 28" bar......then to the 066 with the 36" bar......then to the.....ground usually by this point...with my 076 and any assortment of bar from 36" to 60".........

Right after yer done hauling up the 26 ya get to haul up the 44. I say cut out the middle man but its nice to have in weird places.

I was talking with Rick the other day, I think I made him nervous. But anyway, I don't recall ever needing a 36 inch saw up in a tree around here.

I have a strict rule about not changing over to another saw more than once on a tree... I might start with a 200 and finish (climbing) with my 361. Then again, I may start with my 260 and finish with the 044. In any event, I'm not changing out saws more than once in the tree.

Hey Dan-o, that big tree that I posted the picture of a few days ago was 48" at the point I was at in that tree (around 60') It was 60" DBH. Not many around here that big.

Well, here ya go, Dano. Stihl 066 w/36" bar.

My silky. :wink2:

It's a natural progression otherwise. I used to go from a 335 to a 365 in the early days. I was working with the power company's forester one frigid afternoon a couple years ago. His crew and mine were working the ground and I was topping out a small grove of large Norway spruce for removal with a 365/16in. (I know, overkill, but the only choices back then were company provided 16” or 24” bars.) I came down to refuel and he hands me his stihl 250. I came down with a grin. Soon thereafter we went down to Arkansas for their big ice storm and I wasn't home a couple of days and had my 260 pro. It is handy with a 16, but ever since I got my 200t, I find it more complete with an 18. Even then I usually don't switch till the 200 needs refueled. By the time the 260 is played out, I'm calling for the 365 with a 24. Usually do not have use for anything more while aloft in these parts.
