wow dont know what happened there....jesus all u people who are using 385-395 up a tree ,from what u are saying seems like overkill to me ,im betting a 64-72cc would suffice

to me the 85-95cc's are save for at least a 3 foot bar

:agree2: as well.

I run a 16" bar on the 200 and will use it until production slows down.

After that, it is either the 026 or the 361 (I run a 20" with 3/8 chain on both). Usually it will depend on what I'm cutting to determine between the two.

If I need larger/longer, I'll use use the 460 (24") or, on very rare occasion the 088 (36" and 48")

Dan,

I have personally used a 36" bar on the 066 a number of times in a tree...not my favorite thing but it was nice not having to break around on crane job....last few picks on a HUGE Northern Red Oak....had very tip of bar sticking out other side. Any rate, for standard rigging, I've only had the 36" out maybe three or four times for blocking in extremely confined areas where it was again, also nice not to have to break around. It is rare, but it occurs....
I have a 60" bar on my 076.....but if I ever have to bring that up in a tree I think I'll have another crane to lift it.......

BTW....if you were talking with the "rick" of this area.....of that large company that supposedly knows tree work.......I don't believe he ever climbed a tree before....

We both would scare the #### out of him......

I keep the 3ft bar on the 385 most of the time, but I have a 30in that I use if i am bushing chunks off. For me it is a trade-off between having another saw on the truck. I have been know to run the 3 ft on some big stems, though it is a bit ungainly getting the kerf started .

Being a contract climber I am paid for efficiency, many of my clients are happy to get me back in my truck with a minimum payment. If i can shave a few minutes off the trip down, I am happy to bull the big saw into a few cuts, once the kerf is started, there is no problem.

Now if the client has smaller "big saw" I am more then willing to use it !

I remember running the 385 in a tree with the 36". I found it to be "a bit ungainly" starting the kerf myself. I feel better knowing it's not just me. Lol. Amazing the difference of all that extra bar weight wise. I can climb with that saw mint with the 24".

our full time climber used to help a guy out with jobs and the guy would forget most of his equipment MOST of the time and the guy had to use a 395 mOST of the time i couldnt believe it ....

I recall a number of years ago, 8-9 maybe, I guy out west said that he would climb with 2 saws on his saddle. a medium saw to start the cuts and the big one to do the meaty cuts.

He had a picture of himself in the tree that way :dunno:

The smallest one I can get away with... When the 200 is not cutting the mustard I'll go with the 260... Not so much for power sake as the longer bar I have on the 260. I really like the 260, it is one of the first saws I climbed with (026 back then). If that's not cutting it, I'll go to the 361... and on up from there... I'm not into carrying any bigger saw up a tree than is necessary.

Im kinda like this guy, i started with 200, but my first real job with a tree care, they handed me a 260 for climbing, i said "ok guys im new, but your not going to #### with me, i can tell you that right now.."

The forman started rofl, and said no its true thats what we use, try it youll like it.

Needless to say i loved it but brought my 200 to work each week for those hairy woblers, and tbh here and there the forman and other climber used it, lol.

So, 260 here also, and i used to drag my 660 up on the daddy-o's but now i bought a 362! Bangin, i tell ya 362 is awesome!

Yep i have done this a time or two, when it starts getting meaty, i just throw the 200 to the left and hook on whichever saw i need on the right.

that way incase something happens or i get really winded in a tough cut i can use the top handle to start my groove on side cuts.
