do you like it? i just bought a true temper last week from lowes life time warranty i like dont have to worry about breaking it, just return it to lowes if it does. now i see everyone likes the 4lb fiskars which was only 10 bucks more, im wondering if i should return the true temper, i alredy ordered a fiskars the other day, the true temper is my first maul ever, so im not to sure how good it is, i only split 10 logs so far with it, is the fiskars really that much better then a 8lb fiberglass maul? (yes i know another poll haha)

The best mauls are the U.S. or Canadian made 6lb with fibregass handle. I like wood better but the fibreglass lasts longer. Anything shorter than a 36" handle is dangerous.
Don't make the mistake of buying a Chinese maul unless you gave a good grinder.

Can I vote twice if I own 2 fiskars?
I have a couple cheap ones that I never use since I got the fiskars.

3 Fiskars here + a cheap large one with fiberblass handle - but I never use that one for splitting wood!

I wouldn't call the Fiskars ones mauls though - splitting axes is more fitting!

I have a Stihl PA80 splitting maul. It's the best maul I've ever used.

I have the PA50 splitting axe, which is nice and light. Easy to use when you don't need that extra weight that can potentially mess with your back the next day.

I also have the PA20 splitting hatchet. It's pretty sweet, kinda big for a hatchet, but it's nice nonetheless.

This summer I picked up a Husqvarna hatchet. Now those things are sha-weet! Really compact and light. Fit's in the hammer holder in the Carhartts rather well. :)

I've used the Fiskars many times but I have yet to own one.

i think I have the same one as the OP The head looks similar to the fiskars but this one has a longer handle. I like it but honestly dont split much wood so I dont use it much

A very nice St. Vincent DePaul 8 pounder, Modified with an Ace Hardware hickory handle. I couldn't vote cheap though, because it is actually good steal, nice shape, super fine.

I have one of those true tempers that has easy split 100 cords, I always use an 8lb. Physics says a 6 lb. would do more damage but I have never seen it true in the woods. Those fiskars dont look like they would work well to me and im not willing to spend the money to find out. Wrap underneath the head of you maul with electrical tape and you will get more use out of it as well.

I have a 6# i bought 35 years ago. My buddy kept breaking the handle so i turned some 1" bar and welded it on. It has never broke again...Bob

I use an Adler maul, written in the handle "made in Germany" and so it seems

no maul.

splitting wedges and sledge. If its too big for a multi purpose axe (like most hardware store axes...too thick for felling, too thin to be called a maul) then I go straight to the wedges. Although these days I tend to noodle everything cuz then I can use a saw :)

Mines a hydraulic 31 ton model.
takes one finger to split anything :)
dont even have to lift the wood.
cant understand why anybody would use a maul..

Walmart special, I've split a lot of wood with this one.

didnt you hear? a new fiskars super splitter will be coming out soon with a 6" longer handle! ::bowdown:

i love the fiskars SS, splits great, light enough to carry around for driving wedges too, great tool

fiskars axe

I have an email from Fiskars customer service that they have a new 32 inch handle splitting axe but I cannot find it on their web site yet and it does not show up in a google search. I am waiting to get that one.

Sotz Monster Maul that I guess that I bought back in the '80's. My brother bought one in the '70's before I got mine. I just weighed it and it comes in at 14 pounds. I also have a 15.5 pound imatation Sotz in red and a couple of cheaper ones I have picked up over the years and never used. My only regret is not getting a lighter one from Sotz while they were still in business.

I will take some pics now and load them in a few minutes.

[EDIT] I just went out and took some pictures. This is my Sotz Monster Maul. The edge has never been sharpened and the handle has never broken...

This is the Sotz copy. I think I gave $10 for it at an auction along with a sledge hammer.

Here they are together:

Also found this Craftsman in the garage but have never used it and not sure where it came from.

All for now...

Ace hardware nearby shows the longer handle Fiskars SS-axe in their computer, but says not available yet. I keep checking back with them.

Fiskars Super splitter is my fave for now.
