and definitely not eucalyptus.
Hmmmm, here I thought there was at least a slight resemblance.

In refreshing my memory on eucs, I see where they have seperated several of the trees into a different genus - Corymbia. Among those being the lemon euc, Corymbia citriodora, common where we were. I see they have a Corymbia calophylla commonly called Marri or Port Gregory Gum that resembles your photo.
So is this a true eucalyptus? or a corymbia?

Yibida, thanks for sharing! I love learning new dendrology tidbits. I should have caught the opposite configuration on the leaves (diagnostic, right?).
I don't feel TOOOO bad as it has been over 25 years since I have been exposed to the eucalypts.
Quick question, why is it called an apple??? I noticed in googling further that there is a rough-barked apple gum and a dwarf apple gum.

Botanical names tend to keep me on the straight and narrow where as common names can become confusing when they vary from place to place.
