this climber is impressive. in your neck of the woods, what would a climber like that get paid? (full-time and freelanced)

around here, i estimate he's worth $200/day FT and $300/day freelanced. is that too low or too high?

also, i need a freelance climber with his level of experience or slightly less. if you know anyone living or willing to travel to South Florida....please let me know.

I would imagine 200 a day is goin rate. Most get like 15-20 an hour from what i understand.During storm work climbers usually get percentage.(Me and the guys i work with also sell most the jobs though)

$200/day for FT or freelanced?

FT, freelanced guys usually set a price that they want. That leaves you at thier mercy. If I know they are worth it then i pay it.(If not then i gotta climb it) and i usually only use a free lance guy if i dont wanna climb it or am too busy.

Around here if he is a CA and has a degree in Urban forestry up to 35 an hour. If he is just a CA 25-30 an hour.

Unfortunately, in my neck of the woods, that climber was just good-not impressive. Around here he would only make around $25 an hour. (I'm not exaggerating either, a good climber with a good crew in this area will average around 900 takedowns a year-you do that many takedowns for 15, 20 years, and you get pretty good.)

$150 a day, I'd say climber climbs like he has experience.

he climbs pretty good, but some of his cuts should of not came back at him like that, but he did do a good job at getting away. Also the over hang pull with the truck was unecessary.

1st year:
To judge his pay would be $150 if all he did was climb get the trees down or pruned

2nd year:
to $250 a day if he could run a crew, wasnt caught doing side jobs on my time. never showed up late or hung over and wasnt afraid to come down outta the tree and help do whatever needs to be done on the ground.

He still needs some training on safe/proper techinques, but looks like a lot of talent and potential.

Simon comes with his own ropes, saws and insurance, depending on the job you'll pay between $250 to $350 per day.

He hangs out all day, helps drag and chip, is a good bloke.

Some of the ideas like the no notch tearing and vehicle pull were NOT HIS, it's that old school boss of his! :)

I gotta be careful coz that old school boss has an internet connection and is a bit suss of me putting stuff on the net, oh, we are the same age but I'm newer school!

Also, I'm one of the few that can argue with him, first thing he said about these threads was, what would those friggin Yanks know, have they ever cut a Corymbia tessalaris? But dont worry, I beat him up for ya's. The crew like the debates, they like it the best when he pisses off to do quotes though. :p

Not to be an ass but....

What i see is a bunch of ppl complaining and critisizin the vids.
What i dont see is many of the ppl critisizin, postin vids.
So yall keep cryin safety and we will keep filmin and gettin it done.

(safety is one thing but if yer better then show it!!!?)

Im sure we could all learn from yer proper techniques.

Hey rebel I see you getting pretty good at making a video of you standing on the ground running a saw.

I dont get to see climbers climb much, certainly simon is in his element as one already said. Its just crazy to see how many things come so close for us everyday, watching it really brings it home.

Yeah, wait till you put the camera on yourself and you'll soon see all the little things you do .....

.... and that's then called editing:laugh:

You know, back in the 90's when I first started at my age and size doing this for a living I sure would have loved to see video's, would have made life a lot easier.

What a wonderful thing the internet and sites like this are, imagine now being able to watch real video action of some of those huge redwoods getting nailed, especially from 150' up ... and you think we'd care if someone didn't have their chaps on?

There's some guys around here done some huge and serious removals, consider throwing a vid on for the rest of us.

Amen. It is way too easy to sit behind a computer and critisize. I would guess that most of us either know or have worked with someone who is a great climber but ignores safety rules. (First thing I noticed was no helmet, I climb with no helmet all the time) I also noticed the cuts swinging back at him but, f@#k it, its happened to me a million times, it was really cool to watch him push them away!

As far as what he should make, 250-350 seems reasonable. I think we should all get as much as possible.

How much is he worth? Depends on the job.

I'm a bit better, though more then a bit older and I get 35-60 USD per hour with a $200 minimum.

Though I'm getting old enough I'm thinking about finding an op's level job so I can do other things then climb big trees 3-4 days a week.

Groundcrew and editing made him look better, that stub on the right side hung more then one limb up. They brushed the roof a bit more then I would have wanted too.

He is a good strong climber with the physique to be able to do it well for a long time.

Two hand hitch tailing, is he on a blakes? Has he seen a distal or VT? his style would love one handed slacktending.

Sorry ekka, some of us are not as computer savvy as you. Most of my disposable income is used to by saws anyway-i don't even own a camera! Besides on this site, no matter what you do, people will complain. If they saw a video of one of my removals all you would hear is "why doesn't he use a handsaw, where are his chaps, why doesn't he do it spikeless, why is he using such a big saw, he takes too big of pieces, etc." Everyone's a critic (myself included.) Personally, I thought simon did a decent job-he put the tree on the ground with no damage and no one getting hurt-what more can you ask for? Keep the videos coming ekka and I will try to be less critical.

(Freaking threw out my shoulder yesterday with a polesaw in a tree-who is it around here who thinks everything should be cut with a polesaw? I may have to have a little conversation with him today.):hmm3grin2orange:

He looks a better than average climber, but like most climbers myself included he tended to cut to big a lumps, there was a bit more one handed chainsaw use than i'd have liked to see..

Other than that a good fast climber,i'd hire him £120 for him over here, and once he got the tree on the floor,if it wasn't too early he could bugger off home thats MY policy climbers climb ,groundies clear-up ..

Hey Rolla, he cant nick off after the trees down coz no car, no can drive (legally) hahaha, so he's trapped.

120 pound is like $300 here so is quite reasonable money, what do ground guys get?
