Doesn't sound like a case of leaning on it too hard, if so the 51 would be boggin too. If you can't lean on a 362 as much as a Husky 51 then just take it back and ask for your money back. I'm of the opinion of chain size is mismatched.

Yes, it sounds like the dealer put on a .325 bar/chain, find and post the numbers you can read on the bar and chain.

If so, the dealer needs to replace the bar/chain AND Sprocket...

Id check the chain and sprocket. My dad got a new 290 with a .325 sprocket and 3/8 chain. It would still cut, but sounded like ****. It raped the sprocket and drive links too.

Then I agree with ms460. Take a stick of wood and your saw to the dealer and ask him WTF is up with this thing.

Sounds like either the pitch miss-match the others have mentioned or the saw is just plain tuned to lean.

I've seen it on more than one occasion that a dealer seems to only be able to turn that screw as far as the limiter cap will let them and they just go on and send it out the door still doing 15,000. I’ve heard one dealers philosophy first-hand of "if it fries its under warranty and maybe if Stihl has to fix enough of them they’ll get the message".... sounds like good customer relations to me. :dizzy:

If the pitchs match I'd ask them what RPM they are setting your saw to, might reveal a whole lot about your dealer. ;)

I had a saw come that way in the factory box once.
I was trying to check it with a tach and it kept binding up.
Did some investigating and found a .325 sproket with 3/8 chain.

I have too. When I was at the last dealership, we got a couple customers in who had purchased saws at neighboring dealers. One was a MS-290 and the other was a Husky 353. On the 290, it had a 3/8" clutch drum/sprocket which the other dealer had put an 18" .325" pitch bar and chain on. On the 353, it had the .325" sprocket which they had put the 16" 3/8" bar and chain on. In both cases, the customers had tried to run the saws to the point where the sprockets and chains were completely trashed.

Rather than fixing the saws, we sent the customers back to the original dealers for a warranty repair/replacement. Although not a defect in manufacture, it was definitely that dealer's fault.

I purchased a new ms 362 from a dealership, first time using it :no power the chain litterally stopped mid log. I took it back, the guy loosened the chain just a hair and adjusted the carb and said it should be fine, that was on wednesday, today (saturday) i sharpened it and tried it, same thing it bogs down the chain stops mid log at full throttle.
I'm sure its not what your doing but the last guy I knew of that had a problem like that was hittin the chain brake and didnt know it. Not meaning to offend you..but always check the simplest stuff first. lol

Why did you sharpen the chain if it was new and you hadnt cut any with it??

"today (saturday) i sharpened it""
