Where can I order Stihl Parts Online?

Is there any place I can order Stihl parts online, or do they have it locked-up exclusively through a walk-in dealer? I have a FS80R trimmer and I need the plate that goes beneath the primer bulb. It's a year old but when I called the dealer about a warranty repair he immediately gave me a "Stihl won't honor the warranty on something like this because of alcohol or water in the gas and they have no control over the gas you used..."

So I'll just fix it myself but found that I can't find a parts fiche or parts online. Of course my local dealer doesn't have it in stock.

There are a few new Stihl parts on the 'bay, mostly NOS. Search by part number and also by name.

If you don't have a local dealer, Bailey's can get Stihl parts for you, but they don't keep them in stock, and they add their mark-up to the price.

A local Stihl dealer is likely to be the least expensive source.
 
And why is that? My dealer can have me nearly any part I order the next day. I can mail order Husky parts, and I won't have them for at least a week. Take your pick.

I have found that my Stihl dealer is very competitive with the exception of some parts from discontinued models. Especially when you buy the unit from that dealer. Plus, my dealer sings to me while strumming his six string.

Several reasons:

1. In my case it's: drive an hour round trip to dealer and order part. Repeat when part comes in.

2. I'm not an expert so I like the ability to view parts fiche online.

3. After business hours it's nice to be able to comparison shop and check on prices.

4. I don't wish to buy products that are not designed to run on the gas available in my area. (Per my dealer.) I really doubt this - I think he's just try to weasel out of a warranty repair. Either way, that kind of action doesn't give me much confidence in the product and/or dealer.

all you gotta do is get the right IPL ,look your parts up at home ,then ring and order parts over the phone and get them posted out to you,
if your dealer won't work with you ,look for a new dealer,thats what i did:cheers:

I have to drive an hour round trip to get a loaf of bread it's not that big of a deal

1. 30 minutes to a Stihl dealer in Ohio?

2. You can get just about any Stihl IPL you want right here on AS.

3. Sorry, but Stihl parts are pricey, and they will get you there.

4. Your dealer either doesn't have a clue, or he's lieing to you, trying to sell you Motomix, as discussed in your other thread.
 
I agree with brad 100% here,plus one other thing. Stihl does one thing very well that no other mfr. does, they back/support their dealers 100%. Husky,echo,dolmar have zero dealer support. I for one think it is great that stihl keeps a tight ship when it come to sales of anything outside the dealer. It keeps dealers honest, and helps the mfr. And the dealer turn a profit. This is one reason stihl is #1. Do dealers make good $$ on parts, you bet they do. You have to be able to make it somewhere in business these days.
 
Thanks for the info, guys. This was my first and will be my last Stihl product.

I have been waiting a week now for a set of MS460 clutch shoes and springs. That was after a weeks wait for the wrong ones...

I also have to take off work early to get to the dealer before he closes.

The no mail order parts thing that Stihl has going is obsolete now days.

the internet is a great thing for looking up parts,gathering info,and whatever else. but the internet also makes it very hard for your local mom & pop shops to turn a buck, and compete for business. to me that is what this country is all about,small,successful business. i will take a good dealer over a computer any day of the week.

Well I would agree with you there except the shipping thing on a non special order. If the dang dealer is going to charge me shipping to his place, I might as well have it sent to my door.

Then there is the part about them charging $158 to put a new chain adjuster on a 036 pro. Sorry thats more then a fair buck.

It is regional. Some distributors are better than others. Depends on the dealers' relationship with the distro too. If you're a known crappy shop then they may want to inspect the warranty claim. You might want to just call Stihl and ask them to refer you to a better shop. Stihl does a lot of good faith warranty on things that aren't even covered. Again depends on region and dealer.

At the end of the day no matter what brand you support, the brand is only as good as the dealer representing that line.

Depending on which carb. It might be more cost effective to replace the whole carb for around $30. I think the primer plates are around $15.

I agree. I've waited weeks for parts from the dealer (forgot to order them, only place an order when I need lots of parts, shipped the wrong ones, pick an excuse). Let Amazon.com sell Stihl parts and we'll really see some customer service. I'm not complaining about prices, just availability and service. They could make the Internet sellers and dealers sell for the same price for all I care.
