Where do you buy an extra long bit to take core samples?

So just to clarify, because you didn't answer randyg's question:
Do you just want a hole?
-or-
Do you want to pull out a core sample to look at it?

ATH, I'm just going in with a twist drill on this one. If there is time, I might order the core sampler. The object is to find rot in the key areas where sections may tear out.

There is nothing on the outside of these trees to signify rot, but one of them did tear out, and it showed absolutely no sign of it until it toar out in the storms lately. The thing was riddled with nothing but fungus and rot on the inside.

I'd prefer the ol' ultra sound method, but I don't see anyone giving those away, so....

Oh yea, thats right, tree work was supposed to be free. Why be profesionall and charge a fair rate, when you can hack the trees instead for a lot less!

This guy doesn't need a license to practice arboriculture in san diego Jeff??

Hey, pecker jan. What's it to you? I work within the local laws, and that's all anyone has to know. I don't see you poking it to any other guys about their situation. I'm going to get the point across to you, dip weed, in a PM right now.

Couple of ideas:
1) If the 'standard' hardware stores don't have a long enough bit, try someplace that specializes in electrical supplies. Though...I am not sure how well you will be able to use this method to do what you want.
2) Does anybody in your area have a resistograph? These are cheaper than ultrasound... You might even see if the city has one that you can either borrow, rent, or pay to have them come out to use.

Nah, He is just trying to eek out a living pretending he is a tree guy. Thats what I get out of it. I guess with the economy and stuff, he is probably BS's people and hoping to pay his rent because he could not get a real job in this field unless he drags brush. We get alot of these Yahoos here and they soon fade away or hook up with a company after being humbled. The problem is we have HO's looking for a cheap answer and then comes some dude that pretends he knows something and get's his questions on a forum of guys who do. The clients he deals with are of the same mentality. Sad-huh?
Jeff
Pink iron bark to core sample? Massive stupidity!!!:)

Guys doing res work dont need a crap of nothing but a BS line. I dont deal with residential and that leaves the door wide open to people like FTA to BS people. He probably has adds on Craigs list or the Penny Saver. In California, that dont pay the the bills. Surely not a professional and I feel sorry for his customers.

You are like a guy selling stuff at a swap meet. I bet I never see you on a real job walk!

Excuse me. What? :jawdrop:

I apolojive for the scimpy reply here, Jeff. I have some business to attend to.

Without me here, this state would become overrun by trees. A real forrest I tsell you. It's a good thing this region has someone from my class to seek the reigns around here. I hear you don't get a lot of class in this kind of business. It's just a bunch of uneducated grubs that work from what I hear, ay Jeff? Well, shivering timbers. That makes it sound like the customer base is in dire neeeed of my abilities.

I bet you do. I am glad we are not in the same business.
Jeff

...damn forum babysitters. I'm putting in 14 a day on this thing while forum bugs here bite up my posts. Then what? I come back some time, and I find a bunch of nonsense about yakity yack in my threads. Who knows how the internet world can be so full of people that only want to answer your questions with, "You don't know ****. Get out of here.":taped:

Get over it, FTA! You are the one asking stupid stuff and posing yourself as a tree guy to unwitting customers. Like I said, I feel sorry for people that pay you. You are not a professional. Sorry, alot of us are, and you feel like you are getting picked on.
