Hey!

I'm new on this forum.
I'm in doubt, what saw is the best for the beginner, i have never owned a chainsaw before. I'm looking for either 361 or 441 stihl, maybe 372 xp? In the future i want a PS-7900 cause i've heard it has a good reputation.

Looks like a lot of good choices there! Whatcha gonna be cutting with it?

Welcome to the site.

It sure looks like you're planning to jump in with both feet!

Your post doesn't say if you have run or been around saws much.

Do they have Home depots in Norway?

Not that it was a bad suggestion. Bit if it was me I would skip the 361 amd 441 and just jump in with both feet for the 7900.

hey, it's no problem getting dolmar saws here, and parts as well, but i'm not sure, many dark clouds have followed company or was it makita now?

anyway, no idont know much about saws, but i think i will wait with a 79cc powerhouse, and get the 361 stihl as it has a good reput, i guess...

The 7900 also has a great rep. But the 361 is a better starter outer saw, as you've never owned one before. Heck, you just might be satisfied with the 361's power once it's broke in. You don't need a 7900 to cut a 4 inch limb. BTW, what size wood are you cutting? And welcome to AS! If you stay on this site long you WILL be ADDICTED!!!! And the chainsawer's disease is contagous!!!!! Beware!!!!!!!:greenchainsaw:  :)

The 361 is a great saw with a superb reputation and the 441 is on its way.

441 on its way, whatcha talkin bout, thats a famous saw, its da Prince and it has done nuttin but make SawTroll wish he had a pruty behind like that 441,:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Correct however is the 361 has a great reputation for reliability and the 441 seems to be following right in its tracks. Get this Mow. Sold a 441 a few weeks ago to this guy. He's clearing a lot for a new home. He came back two weeks later to tell me he loves that 441 but man after 50 trees it was getting heavy. I said 50 trees, he goes yup. Said he sawed with it all day long the last two week ends in a row. I'd say he's doing pretty good...

Yeah that ol Troll sure wishes he could get his hands on da Prince for sure.

As you would use them in the field, fill them full of bar oil and gas mix and put the same size bar and chain and the 7900 onlys weighs a 1 LB more then a 361 ready to cut (might be a hair less cant remember) but there is a thread on it. Get alot more power and less weight then a 441. No Brainer IMO. 7900 wins hands down and cost the same as the 361. Also 7900 you could run 16"-32" bar if you needed.

Did we ever figure out what it was you were going to be cutting? 361 versus 7900 is quite a gulf in performance, and if the 361 will get the job done with a comfortable margin of power to spare, then then 7900 is probably overkill. But if the 361 would be working at capacity much of the time, or even some of the time, then it might make more sense to make the jump for the 7900.

Yup, assuming that the 7900 is an appropriate choice for the task at hand then the question is answered quite simply: 7900.

o.k., three saws... so put the 361 in that mix and:hmm3grin2orange: ..

I'd use the 361 and the 7900 if I HAD to choose two... but I don't;)
