2 saw minimum...
Especially if you are newer to cutting.
Bucking a tree on the ground, pinch the bar, you need something to get you outta that jam!!

yes, many good advices here!
Here in Norway the 441 costs 7900,- kroner( 1250 dollars), the dolmar ps-7900 cost 8995,- kroner( 1350 dollars), and the ordinary 361, costs 5990,- kroner(900 dollars).
Yes, it all depends on the use, and even a 361 is regarded to be overkill here, and our wood cannot compare with the sizes over there (states, and canada). So if i had more money i'd sure go with PS-7900 as well.

I plan to use the saw on windfall, the weaather has been rather harsh, and blown down countless trees, '07 must be the recordyear in norway. (sorry, my english is'nt clean, i know, and it's f##### irritating, but it's good to refresh my english writing skills).
After reading this forum alot, it seems to me that noone can judge which saw is the best one, sachs dolmar is to be the oldest company, but the stihl is the ruler, and so fort. It seems like some products are better than others even tough it came from the same producer. My point is, that someone are lucky to get a very good sample of the ps-7900 lot, while others are less lucky and get one with major faults, and have to get new parts etc, etc. I, of course hope i will get a good sample of the stihl 361, when i decide to buy it.

I will chop up windfall, grantrær and furu. sorry i dont have the english terms for gran, bjørk, furu, but that's the treesorts we have over here among other....
maybe sawtroll can help me out in the language dep.
what about the PS-7300 dolmar, i rarely see it in the forums, is it that bad, i thaught it had the upper hand comp to 372 husky, 441 stihl, jonsy 2701 in power figs. It has 5,7 bhp so it should even outmatch 575 husky with its 73,5 cc capacity.
Maybe i should start a new thread on this one, but...

(Well my dream is to operate a modern 30 ton excavator with the lako X50 SERIES PREMIO LINE harvesting head 950, he, he, that's ust awsome, the machine can crosscut up to 38 inch, and has a feed force up to 13,000 ft.lbs, awsome...)

I think that there is a general agreement that since it is on the same platform as the 7900 (and 6400, too) and the only difference between these other two models and the 7900 is in their smaller piston/cylinder bore, folks figure that if you're going to carry a 7900-sized saw around it might as well have a 7900 piston and cylinder on it. At least around here the price difference between the 7300 and 7900 is a non-issue - $50, at most.

With prices of saws over there and wood size, I would say 361 is all you need for 2/3 the money of the others.
Now if money is no object 7900. I wouldn't consider the 3rd one.

I would choose 357xp or 361 . If you need something bigger 440,441 or 372xp,575xp Bigger 7900 or 460 bigger 395xp or 660 stupid big 880 3120xp. but I think a 361 or 357xp would be your best bet or maybe even a 5100. I like the 361 personally but I won't knock the others.

Ok!
the choice is done, i WILL go for the 361 stihl, i hope it'll get stronger the more i use it.
any recommendations with bars in mind (sorry my language)??How long should the bar be, before getting unbalanced?

I would say 18 or 20". The 361s I have used ran great through soft and hard wood with a 20.

Good choice. I was looking at them recently while I was at the stihl dealer to pick up some parts. I would get an 18" stihl es bar and rsc chain. The es bars have the replacable tips. It is also nice to have a carry case and some extra things such as spark plug, extra chain, files, oil etc.. oh and so you don't post how to break it in just go out and cut as you would any other time nothing special about it really. If you can find synthetic oil use it it cuts the blue gas fumes to almost nothing. Don't forget to post some pictures when you get that baby home.
