I have stopped burning and ready to switch over to air conditioning.
I went to clean out the firebox and remove last ashes and noticed there is some caked on creosote on the sides at the base. I was wondering if any of you try to remove this or just leave it. I don't want to damage the inside by excessive scraping or chiseling it off.
Let me know your thoughts.

I got the stove all cleaned up at the end of March here in NJ. I could have had a fire going every morning for the month of April and the first week of May. It was very cool, 40's, low 50's every morning.

small fire in the cookstove as I write. House was a bit chilly due to the rain, but mostly burning to dry laundry on the rack and cook supper in a bit.

Supposed to be in the 80s in NH this weekend. The latest we've had a fire was right around this time 2 years ago during a rainy stretch.

Just lit one up 49 and pooring down rain. Setting new records this month for late burning.

No shyte. It was 38 degrees on Tuesday night here. 45 degrees here today at noon! I had the house t-stat set to off a few weeks ago, but now it is on again in this latest series of storms. The solar system is not cranking out much hot water either. So its burn burn burn... had to get more wood this week, about a half cord of downed oak to burn in the OWB. One week of heat in the high 80's/low 90's is all that there has been this year here.

just started another one...wow, june 5 and still burning during the day!

supposed to get down to 42 tonight.

Cool enough for a fire last night, but I didn't want to fire up the stove, because I was cleaning it today. Took out about 2 gallons of ceosote; now good for another whole year.

90' today very humid after rain last night. Im sweatin my a$$ off in garage working on coworkers mower. Last thing on my mind is fire.:dizzy:

That's amazing you guys still need a fire. It's been in the mid 90s here for a while now.

I could probably get by without it, but with rainy weather, highs in the low 50's, and a low of 42 tonight, a fire sure does make the evening go a little better. we havent seen 90 degrees yet. its hard to believe for this area, that combined with the fact that the days start getting shorter in just over two weeks is kind of hard to believe.:dizzy:

In N.H., there's going to be a 40 degree swing in temp. It's in the fifties now and the forecast is calling for 90+degree temps for tomowwow.

Don't much mind burning this late. Gives me a productive ourlet for all the bark falling off my splits for next winter. Also too the splinters and other debris littering my wood stalls in the barn. Haven't burnt any "real" wood since April.

When you need to heat water anyway, an inside fire is a good thing. Plus the cool 50s temps make for very nice working outdoors.

90 F.? Who wants it?

That said, it's going from the 50s here to the 70s with a lot more humidity so I'm going back outside with my water fires it seems....

Cooked chop suey last nite on stovetop. 50s is great working weather though when rainy and damp, handling wood isn't as much fun as it should be, especially if you don't like to wear work gloves.

With weather in the 70s, sounds like you'll have the better weekend weather as our first real heat is headed N.H.'s way - tho' still hard to imagine with today's weather.

You should burn that stuff, as it is toxic to plants. I burn off the creosote here before turning the boiler off for the summer. Though, this year, maybe we will burn all the way through the fall??? Pissing down rain again here today. 54 degrees F. outside and very windy.

cold beer time (real cold) in western new york

here in western New York State it's high 80s going to 90s.

Humid too!

The beer can't get cold enough tonight!

:givebeer:

Had to keep the water on the garden transplants.

The warm weather is welcome after the seemingly long winter.

although the cooler weather is better for firewood.
