Why are flippy caps hated?

For the hobbyist, homeowner types like me, rarely do we run through more than two tanks in an outing. Usually within 1000 feet of home base. So we carry a small amount of fuel and bar oil if needed, and can bet that the chain will make it without attention. The only time in mid production that I needed a scrench is when I found a rock that was grown into stump I was trying to flush cut. It destroyed that chain by wiping out one entire side of it. I really appreciate not needing a scrench to add fuel and oil.

if you can't make a 200t last more than 3 months, you are definately not smarter than a flippy cap. in fact you may want to look into a whole new line of work/hobby..........:potstir::potstir::potstir:

Well pard when I started this game climb saws were cheap and were homies and tanaka's if you was lucky. I think the 009 was the stihl model then but though those old homies were really junk, they out lasted my 200T! I also used the cs 3000 echo's and was impressed by their durability. I'm now using the 192 I bought at the same time as the 200T so I think maybe your thinking is flawed!

PS: I'm now holding out for the 540 husky...............................................................................................

I have 3 huskys only primer bulb I have is on my combi sthil and my 192 stihl :poke:

Not to mention that most folks here get pretty twisted up about "primer" bulbs, when they really mean "purge." Huge difference. Wish my old saws had PURGE bulbs- would save lots of cranking or, heaven forbid, starting fluid. :msp_biggrin:

Sometimes they are not easy to seat. You have to ride the rim of the tank opening a little bit to get things to line up .Sometimes you can get it to take in the wrong sequence and have it not seal.

They are also put in places where they make no sense. Like on the tank of a string trimmer or back pack blower. No reason not to have a nice, easy to use screw on cap there.

They are also more expensive than normal fuel caps. I have seen them crack and break, since there are more and thinner components that make them up rather than just a single piece of plastic...

Yea what he said, Too much time spent solving a non issue imo

I think it's a love hate relationship.... I love them cuz here quick and easy, I hate them cuz I had a groundman send me a saw that he started and filled w oil before he sent it up, button the oil cap wasn't on right and I had a lap full of oil which sucked, but I heard from my dealer that next year he pro saws r going back to he old style caps

They work fine for me, I have only replaced 1 oil cap oring and 1 fuel cap. One the other hand, all the husky's except the 394 had fuel cap leaks that required a new style cap to fix. Oe orings and new original style oe caps did nothing to solve the leaks.

Exactly same thing happened to me ,...Very Impressed

Anyone who's had to finish the day with a wet streak of mix or oil down their pants knows why. Happened to me first thing in the morning. Long day. Wasn't wearing chaps.

Difinitely prefer the old style caps on my 026. Simple, effective. Why change that??

It was because some people don't think a cap is tight until the plastic is stripping away lol so the people that know how to properly tighten a fuel cap are victimized.
I won't be a victim that's why I don't co-sign this crap. Unfortunately some things leave no choice such as; fuel cans, I'm still pissed the old square can with a metal flex spout is unavailable. I feel the customer should have a choice, not be force fed unwanted design flaws like a flippy or a safety gas can that is such a joke to use its ridiculous.

Ode to a flippy cap.

Ode to a flippy cap.

Flippy cap o flippy cap, how do I hate thee?
I put you on then flipped you down,
Then you pissed on me.

All day I walked around with bar oil on my pants
Inspiring what I can only call
The no more flippy cap dance.

I've had it with 2-cycle mix and bar oil
Failing to be controlled.

Dripping #### upon my pants is already getting old.

For those of you that just don't get the aversion to flippy caps

Drip some mix gas on your pants,
Hey Stihl... stick em up your ass!

Love flippy caps don't have to carry a bar wrench to refill. Have ended up with bar oil on my pants with both caps. Like my daddy would have said "Son you just have to be smarter than the cap". Fun to visit old threads, not much really changes.

O I do have a bar wrench, on my skidder, with extra wedges and falling axe. I work on flat ground, so use my big yellow wedge when needed. When I was strip sawing, like a 100 years ago, I carried a lot of stuff into the woods and don't forget your lunch.

not to reighn on your parade but I don't need a scrench to get my caps off on my 375 xpw and I have not once had the cap come off and drench me yet. Of course that's not why I despise flippy caps poor engineering is why. I feel a better design would of just been a flip up added to a screw on cap instead of the garbage that was created that I strongly feel must have been rushed through quality control lol.
