I hope it will and I think it will, my fear is it will colapse as soon as it gets going good, as happened in the past. I really hope not, and I think Makita will keep it's eye's on the prize!!! They have a great product, just hope they keep the act together long enough to prove it!

As they say here in the lower Mid-West

"Who the HE(( is Dolmar"

95% of people around here think Dolmar is a serial killer .......
Never knew it was a chainsaw line.

No kidding. I get everything I can from the local husky & stihl dealers just because I can, and dont mind paying a little more for it. he probably cant buy it for what it costs in big box stores. I do high-end aquarium maintenance for people, and the truly professional equipment can't be bought online. It has to be purchased in a specialty shop, and yes, costs good money. Like anything that is top notch, you gotta pay. DONT SELL OUT, DOLMAR!!!!

Maybe, if they don't roll over their emerging dealers and sell to the box stores...
Like Ace Hardware and Mead Lumber :hmm3grin2orange:

O,O .........That was Stihl ....My Bad...Husqvarna went bulk .

Out of the 372xp , 346xp and 359 the box store could of only helped me with 1 of the 4.

One of the keys is whether or not they have the patience to sign up good dealers. Often in situations such as this the pressure to grow a dealer network results in a "get some pins in the map" mentality. You get a bunch of dealers in short order, but many of them go nowhere and ultimately aren't any good for the brand.

And it certainly doesn't result in a good experience for the end user either. A guy that only sells a few saws will only have a few parts, if any.

Everything of value like this takes time and lot's of hard work. You would be surprised at how many times a sales rep comes in the store trying to get us interested in a new line of equipment, and makes some silly boast about being number one in 5 years or having 1/3 market share in 3 years or something.

That baloney sounds great at a sales meeting, but NONE of the brands that are on top got there in just a few short years. It took all of them many years of hard work to get where they are.

Same in the PNW too...

However, there is one cat who runs a Dolmar here that I know of...

But he's the only one!

You would have a hard time getting a new dealer to sit on a large amount of equipment nobody has ever heard of. My dist. has been very good and I can get just about any part not in stock next day. I really see this new system working better. My last dist. said certian parts where obsolete when I was fixing up my 133 and my new guys where going for one week with the line and had the parts on hand and ready to ship...... I think it will work.

I am guessing that they won't ever get a really decent distribution network going. I live in the Pacific NW and reasonably near highly populated areas and also in a region that uses a lot of chainsaws. And when I decided to try a 7900 for myself it was a difficult to find anyone here that could even order one. It was a small hole in the wall shop that was 3 months new to Dolmar and the only dolmar thay had seen (and only 2, I think) was the 5100s. There were other dolmar dealers listed on the dolmar site within a couple of hours, but when I tried to call those numbers they were no longer valid. Not a warm fuzzy feeling.

We have Stihl and Husky dealers up the kazzoo here, and in fact I could have bought a 460 for the same price as the 7900.

But other than some minor gripes and this concern for parts availabilty (which I would not personally risk if this were my only saw), I got to say I was a bit skeptical about all the raving about the 7900, but it is a real joy to run. Smooth and even power in a light package. Just try a 7900 with a sharp chain and the need for talking is over.

If Dolmar could get their act together the 7900 and the 5100s (from what I hear) could give H and S a run for their money. But if the past indicates the future, it won't really happen. So I'll stick mostly to Stihl and Husky to keep me covered.

Actually I must admit that I never even heard of Dolmar before coming to this awesome site  I have 2 dealers within a 20 mile radius of me too  The saws are highly reguarded here and Dolmar will be my next saw when Big Brutus passes on :( or maybe before that. I really do not see them growing any bigger around here as it is Stihl country around here :chainsaw: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Talon

This is something that will not happen overnight.
It's probably going to take a minimum of 6-10 years to grow the brand at the national level.

Here are some of the goals that Dolmar has made so far

1- Newly designed competitive chain saws in the 45-50cc & 70-80cc range

2- Competitive cut off saws in the 12", 14", & 16" range. Dolmar is building about 1/3 of all cut-off saws sold in the world. Their competition in the category is Partner & Stihl, Husqvarna dosen't really even count in this category.

3- Full distribution in the US & Canada with healthy parts & wholegoods stock. All with delivery available to dealers the next day.

4- Has stopped the Makita brand chainsaws (Except for the DCS-6400, DCS-34, & the soon to be discontinued DCS-540) So Dolmar dosen't have to worry about being in competition with their own product in different colors.

5- Dolmar has been doing more advertising at the dealer levels.

Here is what Dolmar is working on to help further grow market share in the US & Canada.

1- More new products to be released in the next few years. With new saws in the 30-40cc & 90cc range, a better selection of leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, string trimmers, and other hand held equipment.

2- More advertising & other marketing at the consumer levels when the dealer base gets stronger.

3- Expanding their factory in Hamburg Germany to be able to keep up with growing sales around the world.

I really don't know to much about Dolmar's other then their dealers never last in my area. It would take a VERY long time for them to gain any ground on Stihl, Husqvarna and even Jonsered around here, I don't think they can do it. There are 9 or 10 Stihl dealers, 7 Husqvarna dealers and 3 Jonsered dealers within a half hour drive of me. There is one Dolmar dealer that I know of. I don't know anyone that's done any business with them. Most people that I've talked to don't think they'll last, so they stay away.

Like I said Stihl, Husqvarna and Jonsered have all been around here and been VERY strong for ever it seems. Dolmar will have a lot of work to do if they want to be successful in this area. There is a Solo dealer around here too. I just don't see either Dolmar or Solo doing much in this area! Just my $.02! :biggrinbounce2:

imo,the 5100 and 6400,7900 are leaps forward in saw design, but stihl and husky have a market strangle hold.
in any event I love my 5100.

I have more Stihl's in my trailer than you have saws hanging on your wall.:hmm3grin2orange:

Where I am at, I had never even heard of dolmar until I came to this website. They sound like a good quality saw from what I have read. Around here Stihl pretty much dominates. Huskies you can buy at lowes and home depot I believe.
