It has been a fairly mild winter so far. I am heating 1300 square feet of living space to 70 degrees and 700 square feet of garage space to 60 degrees, plus my domestic hot water. I have been burning 40 percent hard wood to 60 soft wood and maybe have burnt 1.5 cords since the beginning of october. I think I will do 8 cords by the beginning of may.

nice looking house.....do you have two fireplaces on it? i see two chimneys.

Thanks, I'm pretty proud of it.
9 flues. 2 for air exchage, boiler, 3 fireplaces, sauna, stove for cooking and one without a job.
That means lots of wood burned during winter.

I see my consumption of wood has been higher especially for being farther south than many posters here. I am nearing a cord of wood burned since the heating season began at my LOZ abode. Auxilliary heating systems have never been used. This year I have been burning a mixture mostly of oak and red maple with some mulberry. Ailanthus has been my starter wood. Most of the wood consumed was during that stretch of 10 days where we got 16 inches of snow and temps averaging 15 degrees below normal where I had to burn 24/7.

wood

About 1.25 cord of mized hardwoods in a Hearthstone Heritage stove. Give off nice even heat, but once cold I have to burn through a full firebox of small stuff to get it good and hot again.

Wood is probably %85 of my heat source.

Though it's been mild here in Ct. I started burning early. I'm at almost a cord already in a Vemont Castings Vigilant. :D

Wow, not only do we both have landrovers but I also have a Vermont Castings Vigilant with the side-shelfs, that I bought back in 1980. Great stove!

burned about 1/2 cord up here in Vermont very mild so far snow should be all melted away by weekend. So much for winter, i burn in a hearthstone mansfield, about 2,000 ft house 70/30 wood over propane.

Burned around a cord so far.I like to keep it warm in the house so whens we done for the day and come in the old lady is complaining its hot and taking off her clothes.::hmm3grin2orange:

I lost count long ago. I heat 5000 sqft house and 48'x48' shop. House is set at around 74 and the shop at 65. I'll go thru a cord a week when its bouncing around the 0 degree mark.

a cord a week ,,,,what are you heating with ? a outdoor unit , if so what kind ? that`s some wood , it`s been mild here i put 3 small logs in yesterday and they are still only half burnt,,,but i`ll put 1 or 2 more in before i leave for work

I have an OWB. The shop has in floor heat and the house has infloor and forced air. the OWB is an Empyre 450. We had a cold spell a couple weeks back and the temps were single digits at night. when that happens I have to fill it twice a day.

yah. this could end up being the warmest December on record for us. I find myself digging through the wood pile for poplar and maple, and setting the oak and locust aside. So much for my stacking "species by the month" theory.

Used about half a cord so far, mixed wood. Mostly walnut, mulberry, ash and hackberry. Im runnin an old insert, so the propane comes on while we at work, but I cheat and keep the thermostat down around 63 so when the wife starts whinin, I have an excuse to fire up the fireplace, and go cut more wood. Hope I get my splitter done over Christmas...

2-3 cords of green sugar maple, beech, and iron wood. Started the OWB in mid Sept and it hasn't gone out. Keep 1,200 sqft house around 80 degrees. It's 79.7 right now :) I say 2 to 3 as I run wood from the processor into an old pto manure spreader without a beater, back spreader into the wood shed and kick on the pto. I stacked a load once and it was +- 2 face cords. I've burned two loads plus and I had some left in the shed. I just had 55+- pulp cords of green hardwood trucked in to season for next years market and for our burning pleasure this winter :)
..............i have a clayton 1600 in the basement..i burn a truck load a week.....very good heat....i was talking with my neighbor last year.he picked a piece of wood and clamed down on it with his teeth then smelled it and replyed not ready yet....then he asked me...what kind of wood do you burn.....lol...my reply...{theres differnt kinds?}...keep your chimney clean.burn all kinds
